Democratic Party Platform Refocuses on Gold Standard and Reform
A lengthy 19th century style platform outlines the Democratic Party's stance on monetary policy favoring free coinage of silver and gold at the prewar ratio, opposition to gold monometallism, and calls for limited government power. It condemns Republican measures, supports territorial expansion, fair taxation, and civil liberties, and denounces federal injunctions against state rights. The document also urges territorial admissions, public works, and anti-monopoly reforms within a broader push for economic recovery.
