The Soldier Boys Show Early Drill Exhibitions

The Soldier Boys across the state work hard to inspire enthusiasm. Caddo Rifles debuted in fatigue uniforms with a crowd on the courthouse square watching a competitive drill judged by Capt Hearn Capt Curry and Lt Seay Trelevant Rifles. First Sergeant Howard Swain won. Trelevant Rifles wore white duck uniforms for another display hail to the public. A special train from Lake Charles will bring about 200 visitors to Shreveport for the camp.

The Drum on Shipboard in Navy Tradition

A compact piece on the naval drum's role from Paul Jones to taps, detailing drum corps, powder-monkeys, and the scarlet uniform of drummers. It notes enlistment ages, service terms, and the drum’s ceremonial place aboard ships and at marine stations. A stray clipping ends with a garbled paragraph about punishment devices in Cologne prisons.
