Fred C Whalemeyer 26 placed a bomb near Potter Palmer's Chicago mansion and cut his coat to mimic a prior attack then tried to force entry. A watchman alerted police. Whalemeyer admitted explosives were planted. Investigators suspect motive to gain favor and possible organizational ties. Mrs Palmer was home during the incident.
