Plane crash at Preston airport kills pilot and injures passenger
In Preston on September 29 a plane rented from Maddock Flying Service crashed on takeoff. Pilot Harry Baer Merrill 21 of Lewiston Utah died at the scene. Passenger Earl Gilbert 28 of Fairview Idaho was critically injured with possible skull fracture and jaw fracture. Eyewitnesses said the craft circled back toward the airport, narrowly missing a hangar before nose-diving 100 feet from the field.
