In St Petersburg on Sept 26 two thousand students voted to resume studies, arguing an open university would threaten imperialism more than a strike. The five hour meeting featured mainly socialist speakers and many revolutionary ut terances, with no voices supporting the government.
Manila dispatch reports a brutal typhoon devastating native districts. Eight thousand people made homeless, five Filipinos killed and two hundred injured. Hundreds of buildings were unroofed and the city lay in darkness. Shipping in the harbor undetermined.
Spokane reports a blaze in the wholesale district causing about 200000 dollars in losses. The Booth McClintock Company and Cudahy Packing Company suffered major damage, with C. H. Weeks and the Pacific Transfer company also affected. The fire started in the Cudahy Packing building.
The Yellowstone park season ends as last visitors arrive in Monida. Eastern tourists have boosted the season while the Portland exposition and cheap east rates drew hundreds. Next season will see the Oregon Short Line extended to park limits with a St Anthony branch to funnel visitors via Salt Lake.

Leading the syndicate are George J Gould and Joseph Ramsey Jr president of the Wabash. The Chicago stockholders say the GouldRamsey fight harms the company and the court issued a temporary order stopping property transfers.
A three story brick building under construction on West Ferry street in Buffalo collapsed this afternoon. Thirty bricklayers and carpenters were at work, with about a score injured eight seriously. Names and injuries of eight listed. others suffered minor cuts and sprains. Owner J J Crowley of 810 West Ferry street and contractor Morris and Allen were involved. collapse pulled down west wall and part of the front and rear walls.

Landlords face heavy fines if shots are fired from those residences. Naptha welI and refinery owners are ordered to settle all arrears of wages owed to workers under arrest threat.
Joseph Ramsey announced that the Little Kanawha properties have been sold to interests affiliated with the Pittsburg and Lake Erie road. The sale drew interest from the Pennsylvania and Baltimore and Ohio railways and was initially offered to Geo J Gould, who refused the demanded price of ten billion dollars.
In Bannock County Idaho John W Ash and A J Pierce partners doing business as Pierce and Gray Real Estate Co sue Orpha Eastman alias Rustman in the Fifth Judicial District. Plaintiffs allege a contract to sell Pocatel lo City block 454 for 1650 dollars and seek specific performance plus 250 dollars damages. Defendant must answer within ten to forty days depending on service.
