A hundred delegates from ten southeastern Idaho counties attend the Fifth District P.T.A. convention opening in the Y W C A club rooms with the theme Defense of Childhood and Youth. Mrs. R L Brainard spoke on leadership and Idaho’s safety program while others discussed P T A programs and the home in defense of childhood. The session featured a flag ceremony by Boy Scouts and group singing, with a luncheon for delegates hosted by Pocatello teachers.

Annual Drive Opens Soon For Community Chest
At a Wednesday meeting the Community Chest leaders set the annual campaign to begin October 6 with a $20,000 goal. The advance gifts committee reports higher contributions than last year and quotas were assigned to six divisions led by general officers. The drive aims to raise $10,500 in advance gifts for six agencies including Boy Scouts and Salvation Army with Norman Vaughn as chairman and M. S. Christensen as co chairman.

Wisconsin Man to Succeed Vedeler in Local Teaching Post
Dr. Oscar Hammen arrives in Pocatello to replace Dr. H. C. Vedeler on a year’s leave from teaching at the University of Nebraska. He begins history classes immediately after arriving with Mrs. Hammen. Hammen is a Wisconsin graduate and has four years of graduate work there as assistant professor. He was set to teach in Wisconsin’s university extension department this year.

Texas Storm Loses Grip Across Gulf Coast
