Rio Grande floods at San Marcial and Sanaccha, with two inches of rain swelling the river. Volunteers battled to shore levees while residents fled to hills and two deaths were reported. Polvadero village near Socorro also flooded. river began falling at midnight.
In Elizabethton Tennessee officials announced that a majority of workers favored not striking at the American Glanssto of American Bemberg textile mills. A ballot count overseen by a workers committee followed a morning vote as workers began shifts and a strike vote was planned countryside.
Boise October 6 declared Fire Prevention Week by Governor HC Ladridge urging public education campaigns to cut annual fire havoc. The smoky Northwest scene underscored losses of lives, homes, farms, forests, and animals across the region.

In Wenatchee Washington about 250 white harvesters clashed with arriving Filipino workers in the valley. Police reported four Filipinos chased through an orchard and two hotel workers attacked. New arrivals were given protection while most left. White men B L Ring and W Randall were detained on charges of being agitators.
Homer L. Ferguson of Newport News Shipbuilding testifies before a Senate committee about employing William B. Shearer in 1926 for merchant marine work. He says Shearer acted as observer at the 1927 Geneva naval talks for three shipyards, and notes a $2,000 payment in 1928 described as a loan.
Reports from central Kansu indicate a Chinese massacre of Moslems with at least 23,000 deaths. Victims were separated from their wives before executions carried out under the guise of a conference. Fear of Moslem retaliation suggests possible renewed civil conflict in the region.

In Seattle two deputies stop a large sedan suspected of rum running. One of the occupants fires, killing the driver. his companion, identified as C. Cast of Renton, claimed no knowledge. A pursuit ends with a ditch crash and 16 sacks of whisky found in the sedan.

An Arab band raided the Eskraelon valley children village near Merhavia as children slept, killing a Jewish guard and stealing cattle. Neighbors arriving found the attackers had fled. the village was founded with help from South African Jews to educate orphans from the Ukraine.
