Germany announces fall of Poland as Idaho Southern University reports a record 991 student activity cards issued by the end of the second registration day. Dean Nichols says a thousand will pass through Monday morning, with total enrollment expected around 1,250 as families cite war-driven price increases enabling attendance.
City attorney and financial committee probe a reported shortage in city funds totaling thousands of dollars based on L W Defenbach auditing the 1929 to 1936 period. The report alleges unremitted duplicates while four auditors found no shortages, and ex city treasurer Arthur Grantham denies the charges.
Figures released by league president Jack Halliwell show a 124 game schedule drawing 446 604 paid attendees across six cities from Ms 2 to September 17. Salt Lake City led with 111 101, Boise 89 529, Twin Falls 73 350, Pocatello 71 083, Lewiston 51 175, Ogden 50 366. Receipts unclear but likely 133 981 to 156 311 depending on ticket price. C Jopher of 589 West Clark reported to police at 4 on Saturday that a brief case was stolen. The incident note cites the date 1855 and details a missing item from the residence street location.
Brig. Gen. M. G. McConnell will name a board to investigate the $30,000 Bannock county armory fire at the fairgrounds. Loss to government equipment estimated at $20,000. Corp. Russell Peterson badly burned and recovering at St. Anthony hospital with several days of confinement ahead.
West side firemen answered a 12 45 p m alarm Saturday at an old shed behind the Kasiska building on Arthur and Lewis. Flames caused little damage. Fire crews theorize the blaze started when someone tried to burn papers stuffed in a brief case. No owner identified.
Deputy sheriffs report three youths aged 13, 12, and 10 took four purses from Whitaker Floral in the 100 block on South Arthur, spending $2.35 and discarding the rest behind the Bannock Hotel. Two of the boys had recently been released from the state industrial school.

General sessions open Thursday with a musical program and talks on education evaluation and curricula.

Hyde Park report says Alf Landon urged Roosevelt to tell the nation he does not want a third term. Roosevelt avoided comment and said he must protect himself as Washington news filters in. He planned a Hyde Park return and a family birthday dinner for his mother tonight.
The tallest man ever recorded, Robert Wadlow at 8 ft 8 1 7 inches, visits Pocatello en route to Idaho towns. He weighs 491 pounds and wears size 37 shoes. Wadlow travels to advertise shoes and says he enjoys Idaho climate and the people as he tours the state.
Nampa Idaho sept 23 a chamber of commerce survey with the Harvest Festival association shows 6000 can be raised to improve Nampa ball park for night games. Festival association owns the park and backers plan to seek a franchise at the league meeting in Pocate Sept 29.
London report notes Prof. Sigmund Freud died at his Hampstead home shortly before midnight. He was 83 and had fled Vienna after Austria’s annexation, arriving in England on June 6 1938 with funds raised by American doctors. He leaves wife and children and was finishing a Bible based psychoanalytic manuscript.
Mexico City reported the death of Francisco Leon De La Barra in Biarritz France. He served as Mexico's president in 1911 after Diaz and was an authority on international law and a former president of the international court of arbitration. He also served as ambassador to eight countries before leaving Mexico in 1914.
Mrs. Guy E. Sharp of Nampa died after an intersection crash between a car driven by her husband and another driven by Earl D. Evans of Malad. She died two hours after being thrown from the car. Survivors include her mother Mrs. J. W. Steere of Beaverton Oregon and sister Mrs. Arthour B. Cooke of Tacoma Washington.
Finland filed a protest with Germany after the 2,261 ton Marti-Ragna loaded with wood pulp for England was sunk off Norway. The ship's 18 crew were rescued. The government stated a Berlin protest was ordered.
Nampa authorities asked female officers to take charge of 17 year olds Alma Gepford and Vella Sullivan. The girls were last known traveling north via Pocatello and are believed to be runaways.

Mark Williams, 20, of American Falls suffered bruises and shock after being thrown between two cars on West Carson Street. He rode on the running board of Arthur Smith’s disabled car as it backed to a service station. the impact damaged Smith’s car and Tom Sahlberg’s parked vehicle. Williams was treated at General hospital.

A British freighter Akenside of 2,694 tons was torpedoed ten miles off the Norwegian coast in the North Sea. Its 26 crew members escaped in lifeboats and were rescued by a Norwegian warship. The Arkenside of 1,560 tons was reported lost at sea. Lloyds lists Arkenside home ports as Newcastle and Sunderland.
The Pocatello Symphony orchestra plans season rehearsals starting Monday at 7 30 p m in Swanson hall at the university. Conductor Donald Kisane notes selections for the concert programs and six season standards. Concertmaster Herbert Brand ing and principal players return. new musicians invited to contact Kisane. The group will also perform for the San Francisco Opera ballet on November 30 in the high school auditorium.
Ida B. Wise Smith national president to address the fifty third annual convention in Coeur d Alene Idaho on September 23. The event gathers W C T U leaders and supporters for speeches and activities marking the observance.
