Federal Judge Whitson in Boise allows broad juror examination as prosecutors seek impartial verdict in Senator Borah land fraud case. Many potential jurors claim ties to Borah and politics. Some were dismissed for prejudgment or corporate bias while others were challenged over opinions on the conspiracy.
Two men were arrested after a break in at Roberts & Lewis saloon in Arimo early Sunday. John Kearns, an aged cripple, and Walter Perry, a known Pocatello figure, are jailed in county custody awaiting preliminary examination. Perry once served as Pocatello dog catcher.
Third Vice President M J Sullivan of the International Union of Electrical Workers, home in San Francisco, passed through Boise this forenoon en route to Baltic Lake from a trip to Butte. He reviewed the status of the telephone linemen strike in the copper state and found conditions favorable. He also visited the Gate City of the local electrical workers union.
Mrs Emma Boyd of Baker City and Lizer Watson of Blackfoot will deliver addresses to the local Women of Woodcraft circle tonight. All members are urged to attend.
Lincoln Nebraska delegates at both Republican and Democratic gatherings express near unanimity for nominating Theodore Roosevelt and William Jennings Bryan in the next year's races.
Attorney General Bonaparte asked for discharging the Chicago special grand jury probing rebates to Standard Oil via the Alton railroad. Judge Landis refused to discharge, but said the jury has no duties left, and he ordered a subpoena for James Moffett to probe other manufacturers.
Six of the crew of the stranded American bark Prussia have been landed in New York after wreck off St. Aten island Terra Del Fuego. Four perished and three are in Puntas Arenas hospital. Prussia owned in San Francisco sailed from Norfolk March 27 with coal for San Francisco.
In Buffalo on September 24 Mrs. Bertha Mund aged 27 strangled her three children aged 8, 2, and eight months, then confessed at the Pennsylvania Railroad yards where her husband works. She was arrested.
George Paraskeivas known as George Sparrow a Greek charged with stealing four calves from Johnny Rundel's Bannock farm and selling hides to J S Smith Hide Co. He was bound over by U S Commissioner Fred Caldwell to the federal grand jury with $1000 bond.
Federal agent Dr. W. D. Mason arrives in Pocatello to relieve Dr. Rork and supervise a month long reinspection of eastern and southeastern Idaho flocks. The effort targets sheep previously inspected before entering forest reserves and found diseased and ordered dipped.
Pacific hotel staff purchase silver military hairbrushes and a silver handled umbrella for retiring manager Harry D. Baugh. He is now in hospital and presentation will be delayed until his recovery.
John Dooley a Tammany politician was attacked by unknown assailants on his way home. He sustained a fractured skull and internal injuries in the incident reported on September 24 in New York.
A gasoline tank aboard the yacht Blanche exploded on the Ohio river near Gallipolis Ohio injuring 18 others. Twenty two men were aboard the craft when the blast occurred, throwing all into the river and four men were drowned.
The local Eagles will celebrate an anniversary with a mass initiation and a grand ball for members and families on the evening of October 3 at the venue.
J. Sanborn returns from Bear River where he completed a contract for the Tel luride Power company. He teams with Johnston, the blacksmith, to operate from that shop. Sanborn says the Telluride power plant will be among the finest in the west when erected.

An alarm at 5:15 A.M. sent fire crews to 800 block North Harrison Avenue to Jacob Jacobson’s residence where defective wiring ignited a ceiling in a room. Little damage resulted.

The Pocatello School Board plans strict enforcement of Idaho compulsory school provisions for ages eight to sixteen. Parents face fines from five to fifty dollars for noncompliance, with exemptions by district superintendent permits and medical or home instruction conditions. Juvenile disorderly behavior commissions may transfer qualifying pupils to homes or training facilities.
William R Hearst states in a published interview he is not a candidate for U S president on the Independent League or any other ticket, in New York on September 24.

Henry 8 Knowles sues New Sweden Irrigation district before Judge Alfred Budge with Merriman Wilkins for the plaintiff and O E McCutcheon for the defense. A motion for non suit was denied and case continued. Continental Life Insurance v Todd appeals Justice Masonheimer ruling on policy premiums and commissions.
City of Pocatello issues warrant call up to including No 113 series 1907. Warrants paid with interest to Sept 18 1907 at Bannock National Bank. Interest after date ceases. Goldie McCallister City Treasurer.

Eugene Ferando owner of a Salt Lake saloon on North First Avenue pleaded guilty to selling liquor without a license. He was fined 50 dollars paid promptly. Ferando set up a scheme to pry the lid from Pocatello by storing liquor at the European house on East Clark street and using it as a life saving station until police halted the operation. He was arrested Sunday by Chief John Ellis, released on own recognizance, and the hearing and fine followed.
Peking reports Wu Ting Fang is named to his former post as minister to the United States in a government announcement dated September 24.
R A George, musician of 509 South Third Avenue, files in district court seeking to annul Olive George and E R Bassett wedding. He claims the 17 year old daughter married without parental consent, making the marriage invalid under law. The suit lists Gray & Boyd as attorneys and notes the case set for calendar.
