Man Higher Up in Sugar Frauds Sent to Prison
Charles R. Heike former secretary and treasurer of the American Sugar Refining company described as the man higher up in the sugar trust was sentenced by Judge Martin in New York to eight months in the Blackwell Island penitentiary and a five thousand dollar fine for conspir ing to defraud the government by sugar underweighing. A stay of execution was granted pending appeal and bail was reduced from twenty five thousand to fifteen thousand dollars.
