Five persons detained in Cincinnati were moved to a quarantine hospital after later diagnosis confirmed yellow fever. A special train brought 200 refugees from Louisiana districts to the city, with 50 in destitution. Some sick attempted to flee but were halted.
Chicago wheat quotes show No. 2 Red at 85 1/4 cents for September and December futures at 84 cents, with No. 4 1/2 85 1/4 cents. The report notes steady trading and typical near term fluctuations in the Chicago market.
A white mob attacked Owen Delaney and his black workers in Henderson Mound near New Madrid. Seventy five shots were fired, Delaney was wounded in the head, and he bought all rifles in town vowing to keep the black laborers at work despite threats. At Seattle on September 14 the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions debated the Rockefeller gift. Dr Washington Gladden read a resolution barring officers from soliciting or inviting donations from sources whose gains are morally reprehensible or socially injurious. The motion was referred to the business committee for report with no debate.
In Los Angeles on September 15, burglars entered the burning residence of Br. W. W. Ordway during a firefight with occupants and stole a handbag containing $130,000 in government bonds and $500 in gold. The bag was recovered but the bonds were badly scorched.
The imperial ukase abolishing retaliatory duties on American imports was gazetted today and placed in effect at all customs houses by telegraphic orders from the Ministry of Finance.
A Chicago switchman, A J Jennesse of 9201 Butler Street, reports a cold settled in his kidneys after exposure to all weather. He tried remedies without success until Foley's Kidney Cure. He states that two-thirds of a bottle cured him. Mrs A L Cook.
David E B Sherrick former state auditor was arraigned in police court Indianapolis on embezzlement charges. He waived examination and likely bound over to the grand jury under heavy bonds. He remained at home under detective guard and spoke bitterly of Governor Hanley.
On the stand in the insurance investigation George W. Perkins showed a 1904 check for forty eight thousand dollars drawn by New York Life Insurance Company to J P Morgan & Co. He testified the funds were contributions to the National Republican committee and promised to Cornelius N Bliss, with similar actions in 1896 and 1900. The motive cited was fear the company's assets would be endangered if a Democratic victory occurred.
Walla Walla Washington September 15 Frank Pasquale was hanged in the state penitentiary for the murder of Charles Gray in Tacoma after a quarrel over an insurance policy.
Boise report notes Senator Heyburn says forest reserve laws might be amended to allow settlement of lands in reserves. He defends Idaho against federal policy seen as limiting land use, criticizes Oregonian attacks, and emphasizes his service to the state in this ongoing battle. He recently visited Lewiston on legal matters and returned home to Wallace.
Six persons are missing and probably killed after a fire and explosion hit a small building at the Climax Fuse company factory in Avon Connecticut on September 15.
Lightning struck the Hax Smith Furniture Company's wholesale house in St. Joseph Missouri causing a blaze with estimated losses around two hundred thousand dollars. The fire was reported today and authorities began an assessment of damage and cause.
The thirty fourth annual convention of the American Association of Traveling Passenger Agents assembled at the Lewis and Clark grounds in Portland Oregon on September 14. Attendance was light as many railroad men toured sights and renewed acquaintances. A formal reception at the Lewis and Clark auditorium preceded the opening.

Armistice signed after nine hours of talks between Field Marshal Oyama and General Lineviteh near Shahotszu. It takes effect September 16 and creates a four kilometer neutral zone between the armies. Naval envoys will meet near Vladivostok to establish a naval armistice and neutral zone. Separate talks on Korea border armistice to follow.
