The Agriculture Department cut corn projections to 1.983 billion bushels from 2.212 billion, with last year at 2.614 billion. Durum and other spring wheat forecasts rose modestly while total wheat expected at 837.8 million. Oats and sugar beets also revised. Vermont GOP nominates Weeks for Congress and Wilson for Governor.
Lima reports Commander Harold B. Grow of the U S Naval Reserve freed after refusal of intervention. He had led Peru's air forces under Leguia and was accused of planning to bomb Arequipa. Also freed were Charles Sutton for irrigation fund mismanagement and J H Gildred pending audit.
Western carriers filed a petition with the Interstate Commerce Commission seeking rehearing of a general grain and grain products rate reduction. They argue the ruling cuts revenue below a fair return and was issued long after the record closed. The case originated last summer and the decision was issued July 1.
United States Senator Robert B. Howell of Nebraska arrives on Short Line train 18 and plans ten days near Fort Bridger, Wyoming with Mrs. Howell. Mrs. C. A. Tush of Berkeley California known as Mother Tush tours Pocatello with her niece Mrs. J. P. Halliwell after attending Chicago air races. During World War I she opened her Berkeley home to student flyers training for war service earning her home the nickname The Hangar. She was the first government appointed sponsor for wounded soldiers and an early member of the National Aeronautical Society.

Associate Justice Thomas A. McBride of the Oregon Supreme Court died in Salem after a two week illness. He was 83 and a native of Oregon. Appointed to the bench in 1909 after nearly four decades practicing law in Oregon and Utah.
Five unmasked bandits robbed the Ottumwa Savings Bank in Ottumwa Iowa taking more than 30000. Bank officials later confirmed the amount after reviewing records.
The annual merchandise fair and style show opened to a large crowd with 1500 in attendance. Exhibits were well lit and the hall centered with a floral stage as the Bannock County Flower Garden show joined the event. The program featured the Critchlow entertainers and vaudeville acts, with Misses Dorothy Miller and Kathryn Finlayson as page announcers. The show runs again tonight and Thursday ending with a public dance.
Four hundred thousand government troops launched a major campaign to expel northern alliance rebels from Henan. Forty divisions advanced toward Chengchow along rail routes east and south of the rebel base city, as thousands moved from Suchow toward Haichow and Tung kwan railways. Floods hindered some westward progress near Kweitehin, while troops also moved along the Peiping Hankow line south of Changchow. Eastern Henan troops reportedly terrorized villages and forced peasants from homes.
In Hebron Maryland a fifth person George Neidhardt died twelve hours after his father and three siblings were killed by poisonous silo gas. Mrs Neidhardt alerted rescuers who were overcome while attempting to reach the trapped family.
Idaho Senator William E Borah chairman of the foreign affairs committee endorses President Uriburus plan to restore relations between the United States and Argentina. He says cordial ties with Argentina and South America are mutually beneficial and regrets past misunderstandings. He hopes future relations will improve.
An explosion in the Reading railroad roundhouse yard at Third Street and Erie Avenue, Philadelphia, killed five men and injured about a dozen. Identified dead include John Bielmiller the roundhouse foreman, Fred C Spangler an engineman, and John Kelley the engine inspector. Metal fragments flew through the yard as workers scattered.
The state game warden closed Madison county to pheasant hunting and opened deer hunting in part of Lemhi county that had been closed after last year’s forest fires on the upper Salmon river. Pheasant season in Madison county was set for November 1 to 15, and deer season in the reopened section will run from November 6, aligning with the legal date.
Ernest J. Swift of the Red Cross reported no present danger of epidemics in Santo Domingo after the hurricane. About 9,000 people have been inoculated, 20,000 are being fed by the government, water is repaired, and food supplies are arriving to prevent shortages as ships and aid from nations arrive.
Salt Lake City Sept 10 AP Harvey H Cluff longtime Utah attorney general announces his bid for the Republican nomination for Congress in the second district. Cluff served as attorney general from 1920 to 1926 and had delayed entry until after preconvention activity among candidates seeking votes and pledges.
Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt urged repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment and proposed a federal statute empowering states to control intoxicants. In a letter to Senator Robert F. Wagner he argued for restoring state authority over liquor and allowing states to legalize or prohibit sales within their borders.
Louis J. Smith, 35, was released after a preliminary hearing on August 15 death of Mrs. Della Young in a Salt Lake City hotel. The nude body was found after she was beaten with a poker. Smith was seen elsewhere. Marvin Mills, 34, later arrested for the case and alleged to have boasted of killing a woman.
Italian Foreign Minister Dino Grandi abruptly left Geneva this morning ending his participation as the eleventh League of Nations assembly opens tomorrow. Senator Scialoja will handle Italy’s business, while M Titulescu was elected president with 46 of 50 votes and urged stronger action on global economic relief.
Dr. Mervin Gordon Neale, dean of Missouri's school of education, was named president of the University of Idaho. He plans to assume duties around October 1 after accepting the appointment by wire. A World War II veteran, he has spent two decades in education in Missouri and Minnesota.
