Mountain slide buries Ewared township in Caucasus

In Tiflis on September 10 a mountain flank collapsed above Ewared township near Telaw in the Caucasus. A sea of sand and mud rushed over the settlement, burying more than 250 people and destroying livestock and crops. fifty bodies recovered so far.

Oelrichs Will Cuts Off Widow and Sons

The will of Herman Oelrichs filed for probate in New York cuts off his widow and sons and leaves the estate to his brother and sister. Oelrichs and his wife had been estranged for years, and he had not seen his son recently. The widow is a daughter of James Fair and has her own fortune.

Governor Mead Hails Idaho Irrigation Growth Tour

Six hundred irrigation congress delegates arrived by special train and praised Idaho’s upper Snake River valley. Governor Mead of Washington toured Boise to Twin Falls and Marysville, St. Anthony, Rexburg, Idaho Falls and Blackfoot, calling the region a wonderful transformation from sage brush to fertile acreage and noting the Snake River as a priceless water resource.

Irrigation congress delegates receive royal Rexburg reception

Rexburg welcomed irrigation congress delegates who toured Freemont county grain and beet fields on a special return trip. The party visited Marveville Saint Anthony and Sugar City before an extensive town tour with a brass band and local officials.

Strike breakers sent home for San Francisco streetcar strike

About two hundred fifty men brought from the east by the United Railways company to break the streetcar strike were sent back to their eastern homes today with fares paid by the company. A larger number of strike breakers have found employment in rebuilding the city.

Rexburg Commercial Club Hosts Delegates Luncheon

After a drive of inspection the Rexburg Commercial Club welcomed visiting delegates with an excellent luncheon prepared on short notice. Rexburg citizens and delegates spoke, prompting three cheers for Rexburg’s royal reception. Governor Mead of Washington joined the party, with Vice-President Millbanks expected. The delegation then departed south in the late afternoon.

Lemhi Indians Deferred Removal to Fort Hall This Year

The Lemhi Indians will not be removed to Fort Hall this fall. Commissioner Leupp ordered postponement at Senator Heyburn’s suggestion. Heyburn’s dispatch urged delay due to inadequate housing water and schooling terms and stock care at the new site. The reply confirms postponement until spring and sale of improvements with proceeds to owners.

American Falls Investment Plans New Carey Act Townsite

The American Falls Investment Company seeks to open 70 000 acres of Carey Act land in Bingham Blaine and Oneida counties to settlement. Immense Land Frauds in Utah

Attorney General Moody filed in federal court to recover Utah lands now held by Utah Fuel Co alleging agents induced grants then immediately transferred to the company. The suit follows a July action seeking 20000 acres of coal lands claimed fraudulently secured by Utah Fuel Co managed for Rio Grande railway interests.

Boyd resigns from Democratic ticket for Idaho judge race

C A Boyd of Idaho city nominee for district judge in the Fifth Judicial District resigns from the Democratic ticket. He says no partisan fight should be waged against incumbent Judge Alfred Budge of Paris and explains his position in a letter to State Chairman H W Lockhart. In Butte on September 10 two gangs of thieves robbed fourteen men across the city. During a split of loot the rival factions quarreled and one gunman shot another, leaving a likely fatal wound.

Massacre in Siedlo Reported Amid Revolt Turmoil

From Warsaw on September 10 reports say artillery used in Siedlo. About 200 Jews killed and 3000 wounded in the massacre. Robbery and shooting ongoing as revolutionists fire on troops from windows and the Libau infantry regiment leads looting of jewelry. Local Governor Englke took no action to halt the outrage.

Cuban General Arrives Incognito En Route to Washington

A Cuban general traveling incognito arrived at Tampa on September 10 aboard the steamer with 300 passengers fleeing disturbances. The informants say the rebel army has over a thousand armed men and the Cuban government is powerless to halt the unrest, marking a grim, unstable situation.

Adams Released and Rearrested in Denver Murder Case

Steve Adams, freed on a habeas corpus writ in Boise, was rearrested by Denver police on a murder charge in the Lyte Gregory slaying. Gregory, a Denver detective, was shot May 15, 1904 near Edward Cleary’s saloon. Ten bullets struck him. carpenter Joan Combes was released after questioning.
