Admission free at the high school tonight as Pocatello stores present the Fall Opening Show. Window displays begin at 7 p.m. with 14 local shops featuring 34 models in Autumn Nocturne. The event includes a talent quest for three contestants for Salt Lake City competition.
Forty vacationers trapped by a wind driven blaze at Tassa Jara Hot Springs in King City area were rescued as flames swept through the two story stone hotel and about 15 cabins. The fire devastated the resort’s facilities while occupants remained safe.
Pocatello police chief A L Oliver announced a new speed limit of 35 mph on the Pole Line, with strict enforcement to follow. Police will also enforce the existing 20 mph limit on Riverside Drive in West Pocatello after complaints about speeding on the recently resurfaced road.
Pocatello stores will close Saturday September 17 from 2 to 5 p.m. for the Idaho State College Wyoming game. They will reopen 5 to 7 30 p.m. J L Craig chamber executive secretary announced plans from a chamber merchants bureau meeting. Special Welcome Bengal window displays are planned.

Prominent speakers included Dr. Frederick A. Coller of Ann Arbor addressing breast lesions, Dr. E. V. Allen of Rochester on anticoagulants, and Dr. Frank B. Queen of Portland on cancer control.
Severe lightning storms sparked 150 fires in Oregon's Cascade forests last night. Power outages hit the Klamath basin and Medford ended 100 dry days. Crews struggled to suppress 58 fires in the Willamette NF before rain helped, with one 150 acre blaze in the Siskiyou NF near Glendale.
Police investigated a minor accident Thursday evening in Poca involving a 1937 Studebaker driven by Ted Smith 26 of 325 West Center Street and a 1937 Plymouth driven by Renee Anderson 20 of Route 2 North. Both cars were turning right from West Halliday Street onto South Main Street when the collision occurred.
A Canadian Pacific Airlines DC-3 crashed near Quebec City killing 22. Among the dead were Kennecott Copper executives President E. T. Stannard and Vice President R. J. Parker both New York residents, plus four crew members. Montreal crew identified as Pilot Pierre Laurin, Co Pilot Gordon Alegander, Flight Engineer Emile Terrien and Stewardess Gertrude McKay. Parker led the Quebec Iron and Titanium Co. Stannard directed J P Morgan Johns Manville and Braden Copper. The wreck occurred about 40 miles from Quebec as the plane headed toward Baie Comeau.
Bulletin from St Louis reports about 5,000 Missouri Pacific railroad employees striking at 3 p.m. with nearly all trains halted. The walkout involves the operating staff and follows ongoing labor disputes.
The U S housing expediter will shut twenty one regional rent offices across six western states as of September 15 about 60 workers will lose their jobs rent control duties to be routed through area offices officials say the consolidations do not weaken rent control.
Fred J. Dolbeer president of the Pocatello Highway Improvement association travels to D C to press Idaho officials for commitments to stabilize property values along highways 30 and 191 from Portneuf Siding through Alameda. He cites secured 80 ft right of way in Alameda and bids in Boise for Portneuf hill alignment with a 22 foot traffic lane.
The Pocatello city council met in special session Thursday afternoon approving current claims totaling 64,368.95 and authorizing issuance of 70,000 in tax anticipation bonds. They also approved reopening of a service station on North Main and discussed leasing Phillips Field for agricultural use.
Mayor W. W. Halsey and city engineer Wendell Wilson plan a Monday morning flight to Ogden to inspect Hill's equipment slated for sale. The trip aims to assess assets before any decision.

School traffic patrols will be organized in Pocatello next week under Police Chief A L Oliver. The patrols will be directed by Officers C C Dawson and John Aumick.
The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Ray Allen died today in Salt Lake City. Born Sept. 5, she measured 12 inches and weighed one pound. The premature baby received continuous oxygen and was fed every two hours by an eye dropper.
The city of Pocatello received a quit claim deed dated February 20, 1949, from the General Services Administration granting title to lands and buildings on the former army airbase Phillips Field. Mayor W. W. Halsey said the deed must be filed with Power County clerk, while Civil Aeronautics Administration retains approval rights over airport activities.
Professional Adjustment Bureau filed a collection suit in Fifth District Court against Benjamin H Wynn to recover medical and dental charges totaling 165 13, 117, 188, 4 50, 2 50, 40 and 36 dollars.

Four men were injured in a three car accident on Yellowstone highway near Tyhee yesterday. Warren F. Stuessi 46 of Salt Lake City was thrown from his car after it hit an irrigation canal colliding with Eugene H. Lister 42 of Route 2 North. Stuessi and R B Jones 31 of Park Hotel Twin Falls were most seriously hurt. Jones suffered shock and Stuessi a possible back injury. Edwards 32 of Pocatello and Lister 42 of Pocatello were injured less seriously. Stuessi car sustained 1500 dollars damage. State Patrolman Alfred Nogo provided details.
Western contestants swept the bathing suit and talent preliminaries as Miss Canada and Miss Colorado led. Sylvia Canaday of Denver won bathing suit honors, Margaret Lynne Munn of Toronto topped talent, while Miss Montana featured a horse act that led officials to ban animals in future shows.
