A Short Line official announced E H Harriman died at 3 35 pm at his Arden home. Salt Lake authorities confirmed the death of Americas railroad king born in 1848 died of stomach cancer according to reports.
Edward Howland Robinson Green, heir to Hetty Green, heads a railroad system, cattle ranch, cotton plantation, and an insurance company in Dallas. A speed hobbyist, he owned Texas's first automobile and first motorboat and seeks to own the first filling machine. He is a leading Republican in Texas politics.

Peary has acted under survey direction, which will compute his notes without a formal request, and will review Cook’s papers if he desires. In Labrador the Roosevelt with Peary aboard was near Battle Harbor amid fine weather.
Japanese commercial representatives landed in Portland from Puget Sound and will remain to study the city’s commercial resources until tomorrow.
Chicago report states Alice Webb Duke, once married to tobacco magnate Duke, was committed to an asylum today after dissolution of marriage. The move follows her divorce and comes amid ongoing court actions surrounding the family.
Special agent Del Sprague of the Big Lost River project says Pocatello residents will attend the September 14 opening as part of a Carey act drawing. Trains No 201 and 202 will run Sunday September 12 to accommodate land buyers for the Areo opening.
County Coroner W F Howard and Dr Minnie Howard returned from Gentile Valley where they visited the so called ice cave near Grace. It is a cavern likely an ancient subterranean stream channel where water freezes in winter. The cave runs about 1800 feet long and 40 to 50 feet wide with open ends for air circulation. The Howard party noted growth and prosperity throughout the valley, despite recent rains harming hay and grain.

Nampa announces a potential four game series with the Pocatello Terrible Hubs. Manager Ed ward Ford proposes two games in Nampa and two in Pocatello, with a possible fifth in Boise. Each side would post 200 dollars, gate split 60 40, and both teams cover travel expenses.
Embree accepts Ford challenge for three games in Pocatello and the remaining in Nampa or Boise. Hub manager awaits Nampa reply. If possible the first games would be Saturday and Sunday September 11 and 12 with a double header on Sunday.
Eight people are injured with four likely fatally after a head on collision between a west bound limited train to Los Angeles and a local Eureka train on the Los Angeles and Salt Lake line five miles north of Tint Junction, about seventy miles from Salt Lake City. The engines and several cars were derailed, with the engineer, fireman, and two passengers among the likely fatally hurt.

In Brescia on September 9 Glen Curtis, the American, won the quick starting event by lifting off 90 yards from the start and completing the required distance within the time limit. He is favored to win the prize.
The Hartford Horse Show Association opened its annual exhibition in Hartford Connecticut under favorable conditions. Exhibits include most prize winners from the Newport show earlier this week. The event continues tomorrow.
