Harry Barnard is under arrest after a violent quarrel during an all night poker game at a hotel. An opponent was struck over the head with a pool ball wrapped in a handkerchief, suffering a skull fracture in three places.
In Soda Springs at dawn Harry Barnard, owner of the Stock Exchange hotel, struck W. Mitchell with a wrapped pool ball after a high stakes poker quarrel. Mitchell, a professional gambler, may recover. Barnard was arrested and released on bonds.
State inspectors with Wallis from Boise visited Pocatello diners and a rooming house. Five restaurant keepers and one rooming house operator were arrested and fined after finding unsanitary conditions, led by the Nielson rooming house worst of all.
After an overnight ride from Fargo, N C, Roosevelt enters Dixon’s rally in Montana then speaks in Billings, Livingston, Logan and Helena. He rebuts charges of wanting to rule with an iron hand, calls himself a constitutional monarch misread by critics, and warns on antitrust enforcement and Progressive attitudes toward trusts.
Syracuse Sept 7 Progressive convention selections diverged from Roosevelt’s wishes. Prendergast was urged for governor with Dean H. T. Cook of St Lawrence University as running mate, but Chairman Hotchkiss claimed the colonel would be immensely pleased with the ticket. Oscar S. Strauss left for New York City today.

Addison T. Smith, Republican congressional candidate, reported from Washington that an amendment to the sundry civil bill carried a $50,000 appropriation to begin a federal building in Pocatello. Idaho's congressional delegation, including Smith as Senator Heyburn's private secretary, rallied in support.

The patient known as the human tool chest swallowed objects for years on wagers and faced a fatal ulcer without operation. He is thirty six and works as a laborer.

Colonel Theodore Roosevelt will spend about half an hour in Pocatello on Friday September 13 from 11 to 11 45 arriving by special train from Blackfoot at 11 and going to the High school grounds via auto to a west facing temporary platform. If the weather fails, he will address at Mc Nichols Wright hall. A Progres sives committee completed local arrangements. He will travel to Ogden afterward and may stay over if the regular train is late.
A huge crowd is expected at the Blackfoot fair in Grove City on September 42 with Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, Progressive candidate for president, delivering a one hour speech. Excursion trains from Ashton Idaho Falls McCammon Mackay and a motor car link will shuttle attendees, aiming for a 10 000 person audience that could double in good weather. Roosevelt will also speak in Pocatello after his Grove City address, with logistics planned to minimize railroad noise near the High school district.
Evidence suggests A L Bailey may have murdered two wives by poisoning to gain a third, as Richard Wilcox testifies Bailey was accused by his first wife of poisoning her. A. L Wilson and Mrs. Bailey remain jailed in Shreveport while authorities probe a third alleged death connected to the case.
Mrs. Mary Gillett, a widow in Calumet Michigan, reads a letter from a priest in Renchamp France dated 43 years earlier. The 88 year old clergyman admits he swindled her by substituting his name for hers in a will for her great uncle and asks her to forgive him and claim her inheritance in Bonchamp.
Dr Roy G Cruse of this city and his wife were lost in the woods overnight while hunting with friends near Iron Mountain Michigan. The party split into two groups and failed to reunite leaving Cruse and a companion to camp out in bitter cold. A nine car search followed. they were expected home within a week.
Topeka Kansas September reports to the livestock commissioner show the mysterious horse disease region expanding from eight to twenty six counties as the infection spreads across western Kansas.
Anson Kansas September 7 three horses died from a mysterious horse disease seen in western Kansas. State Veterinarian Shetler examined the animals and labeled it the same unnamed disease. It marks the first appearance of the illness in the southern part of the state.
The War Department plans to send two more cavalry regiments to the Mexican border. General Wood asked President Taft for approval. The units will come from Fort Riley and Fort D. A. Russell.
Helena Sept 7 delegates to the state Progressive convention were undecided on most ticket spots though Dixon was definitely chosen for senator. Senate nomination was the only definite decision as delegates debated several positions.
Wah Lee, owner of a Chinese laundry on North Second Avenue, was shot in the face through a window by rival Fong Kim who fled. Lee, three months in town, survived. Kim remains at large as police warn neighboring towns.
J P Morgan will testify before the Clapp committee and face questions on campaign contributions from 1900 to 1912 and any links to congressional legislation. The exact appearance date is pending. Andrew Carnegie and John D Rockefeller may be summoned if developments warrant in the Penrose Archbold Roosevelt controversy.
Rain falls as Washington holds progressive primaries for full state, congressional, legislative, and county tickets. Delegates chosen today will convene in Seattle Tuesday to hear Roosevelt and nominate the candidates with the largest vote.
