Winston Churchill told the house of commons Hitler would retaliate against the United States for the transfer of 50 over-age destroyers to Britain. He said the swap did not violate international law or affect U S nonbelligerency, while warning of heavier fighting to come as London endured air raids.
A Lava Hot Springs court heard evidence in a preliminary hearing for Ralph Higgins 24 and Daniel Higgins charged with second degree murder in the death of George John 61 who died August 26 from injuries inflicted in a brawl. Justice T A Martin presided as County Attorney C M Jeffery said conflicting stories spurred the charges after a coroner's inquest. John collapsed after an argument about the treatment of a woman at a dance and died en route to a hospital.
