Italy rejects equal status for Ethiopia at Geneva accusing it of failing obligations. Eden urges no Britain Italy conflict as Italy warns of possible military action. At Jacksonville and Miami, Florida the disasters from the hurricane claim hundreds with Red Cross assistance and coast guard evacuations.
The Standard Vacuum Oil company withdrew from its Ethiopian concessions after U S State Department discussions. The move ease tension over Italian Ethiopian dispute and was praised as aiding peace negotiations. Roosevelt reportedly delighted at the development as observers note ongoing questions about further American mineral concessions.
In Geneva the Italian delegate Baron Aloisi announced that Italy has outlawed Ethiopia and will not engage in discussions with Ethiopian representatives at the League of Nations meeting. He said Italy does not seek war but reserves liberty to act against Ethiopia if provoked, and will remain in the League.
Coast guard cutter Carrabassett began taking Dixie passengers aboard at 3 p.m. as rescue vessels and an airplane reported four of nine surrounding steamers were loading evacuees. Dixie carried 384 aboard including 253 passengers and 131 crew amid heavy seas 60 miles south of Miami.
A Branton macazine salesman claimed subscriptions would win a scholarship at an aviation school and offer a free airplane ride by contacting "the colonel at the second hangar" at the loan airport. Buyers later found no such colonel or rides.

Harlan Kentucky September 4 AP County Attorney Elom Middleton, involved in a dispute with the Harlan grand jury over state troops at the August primary, was fatally injured when a dynamite explosion wrecked his car outside his home.
