Belgrade notes delivered to Washington August 30 ask for a clear promise that U S planes will stop over Yugoslavia and for assurances such flights will not recur. The note cites Aug. 9 and 19 incidents where American transports came under Yugoslav fire and details reprisals and ultimatums tied to earlier notes.
Six Idahoans died in weekend accidents. Keith La Von Shepard, 13, fell from a truck in Stanley basin and a rifle discharged. Jay Van Braze, 40, was hit by a truck in Kimberly. Louis Dopita, 27, of Twin Falls, perished when his motorcycle overturned near Winnemucca Nevada. Joe Judson of Sandpoint drowned in Clark Fork river. Jack Medlin and Arthur Lewis, Boise flying instructors, were killed when their plane crashed into a mountain north of Kemmerer Wyoming.
Louis R. Dopita 27 a former Twin Falls resident died instantly on U S highway 40 five miles west of Golconda when his motorcycle crashed head on with a car. Coroner Pat Vevine called the death instantaneous. Dopita, an Army veteran, had been working in mines near Mountain City and was returning home after visiting friends in Twin Falls and Buhl Idaho. His body will be shipped to Twin Falls for services and burial.
A state department bulletin says a full statement will be issued tonight or tomorrow regarding the dispute with Yugoslavia over the forced crashes of two American army transport planes. The report also notes Senate access to Joint Chiefs of Staff files in the Canal project matter was blocked by Adm. Ernest J. King as Chairman Mead announced.
Voters in Pocatello city tax paying districts and parents of children go to the polls to choose two three year trustees. Retiring incumbents Leroy F. Jones and H. B. Yearsley are the only filed candidates with write ins possible. Polling places at Tyhee Roosevelt Bonneville and the high school auditorium open 1 pm to 7 pm.

President Truman authorized the maritime commission to dispose of the USS Lafayette the former Normandie as scrap. The vessel was declared surplus after being seized nine days after Pearl Harbor and later caught fire at a New York dock during refitting, but was never used in wartime service.
Richland Washington firm General Electric accepts operation of the Hanford atomic plant to aid national defense until an international system prevents atomic warfare. H A Winne says GE will focus on improving production operations and using energy from radioactive by products.
Arab arms move into Palestine through the border into three groups Najada Futuwah and Jawallah. About 5 000 Najada members are roughly half armed and 13 000 Futuwah members about a third armed. Guns are mainly revolvers a few rifles and scarce machine guns. The main supply comes from Arab tribesmen across the border.
Delegates at the Utah Idaho Kiwanis convention prepared to ballot on officers. Nominees included governor candidate Platt W Fuller of Ogden and four lieutenant governors: Harold Christensen Springville Utah J Whitney Floyd Logan Utah Dale M Strong Pocatello Idaho and E D Hunsaker Nampa Idaho. District membership rose to 1899 with strong finances. Col E W Timberlake warned of atomic bomb threats and urged world political control through a world organization. Hugh Jackson of Palo Alto spoke at the governor’s banquet as George Lowe presented an award to District Gov Poulsen.
Wool growers from Madison Fremont and Teton counties will meet in Rexburg tomorrow night to discuss forming a predatory animal control district. Representatives from the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the state predatory animal board will attend.
The north west turn of Lakewood park's one mile dirt track in Atlanta claimed two top racers, George Robson of Glendale and George Barringer of Indianapolis, as they crashed during a 100 mile event watched by about 309000 spectators. Robson died from injuries after his car plunged end over end and struck Billy Devore, who was forced into the pond. Barringer died of skull fractures.
Idaho reports record price levels as livestock rise and crop prices climb. August overall commodity prices up 22 percent from 1945 while grains and potatoes fall modestly. Hog prices up 4.10 per hundredweight, beef cattle 0.70, lambs 0.80, milk cows up 5 dollars.
Spokane Washington and Idaho postmasters consider holding their 1947 convention in Alaska. Mrs Jane Cody president of the National Association of Postmasters announced the possibility at the close of the two day meeting.
Anderson's grandson Robert Anderson, 35, manager of Fox theatres in Pocatielio, is named as a grandfather. His daughter Mrs Glen Ross Phillips, 18, gave birth to a nine pound four ounce boy Sunday night. Phillips' husband serves as a private first class in the military.
Nelson in Arsenal of Democracy warns the nation to be on guard against growing military influence in peacetime. He says the army seized civilian economy control in 1944 and will become a dominant government branch, risking economic and social systems if military men lead.
Communal Hindu Muslim clashes erupt in Bombay with troops and police deployed. Pre dawn fights flare outside curfew zones as police fire three times in morning outbreaks. casualties include 10 dead and 50 injured. Looting and stabbings occur. public transit stalled.
Bridget Waters 26 and Frank Waters 38 were involved in a bitter separation. In a Las Vegas home the 16 month old son Frank Jr. witnessed the fatal shooting when Bridget Waters fired a .22 pistol at her estranged husband after a dispute over divorce and future plans. Bridget Waters was booked for murder investigation.
Edward McMurde was hospitalized with head injuries after being slugged and robbed near his home. Police say a Black man approached as McMurdo waited outside a neighbor’s home for his wife to collect their baby, taking $12.50 in the assault.
Moscow reports that the Soviet government rejected the U S note urging consultation on trade terms with Sweden. Tass quoted that Sweden and the Soviet Union need not seek U S approval on gains or losses from any five year agreement. Washington considers sending a second note while Sweden prepares to resume talks in Moscow.
The U S forest service reports 70 fires sparked by electrical storms across Boise Payette Challis Salmon and Sawtooth national forests. Most are spot blazes six remain dangerous including a three acre Pole Creek fire southwest of McCall with a 60 man crew surrounding it. Firefighters hold a 30 acre Barber flats blaze and fight other small fires near Spence Creek Lowman Garden Valley and Rattlesnake. Eighteen fires burn in Payette and one new blaze in Sawtooth areas.
The 21 nation peace conference military commission unanimously approved the big four plan to cap Italian forces at 297 500 total including 250 000 army 65 000 carabinieri 22 500 navy and 25 000 air force with no aircraft carriers and land airforce limited to 200 fighters and reconnaissance planes 150 transports and training planes. Yugoslavia raised a counter claim over Venezia Giulia and accused former Italian premier Bonomi of cynical fascist tactics as Bebler criticized the French frontier policy.
In Cleveland Tennessee three followers of a sect died after ratwese snake bites during funeral rites. Walter H. Henry died after being bitten at 54, Hobart Wilson 46 died an hour and a half later, and Harry Skelton 18, who was bitten August 17, died August 28. Authorities consider legal steps uncertain.
