Addley Baker, 25, a Mobile oiler, swam 25 miles through rough seas for help after the freighter Tarpon foundered off East Pass in the Gulf of Mexico. Coast guardsmen searched for 15 missing crew members as two bodies, including Captain W. G. Barrow, were recovered. Body of Flier Found in Lake Salt Lake City
An army board was appointed to investigate the plunge of a training plane into Great Salt Lake. Private Henry W. Pearson, 25, air corps mechanic, died in the crash. Lieut. Lucien N. Pair swam to safety as wreckage was found one mile off Shivapowell. The board will rule if Pearson died in the line of duty. Pearson’s body was recovered and held in Tooele as word reached his widow in Silver, Texas.
