Four victims from Nampa were drowned in Payette lake near M'Call. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Horner and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Betts died when a small boat foundered in high waves. Bodies were recovered from different lake depths. a bystander warned against venturing out. Six Betts children were left orphans.
At Perry Ohio 1400 marksmen took part in Niner Day events. Sergt McWillie James of the 25th Infantry won the Leech cup with 103 of 105 and most V scores. Sergt Frederick Pauch of Somerville New Jersey won the Navy match with 97, tied by two others but he had the most inner bull’s eye hits. The five person US team for the international De War match will be chosen this week.
Gasoline taxes collected in August for July sales totaled 330474 dollars, up from 241873 the prior year. The department records 6632000 gallons sold, with seven monthly sales through July totaling 1484873 dollars including August.
Senator J Thomas Heflin began his independent bid for re election in Montgomery Alabama with a liberty bell emblem bearing White Control and Down With the The campaign followed a statewide Democratic executive committee vote that barred Heflin and other candidates from the slate. William Randolph Hearst arrived in London after France ordered his expulsion over publishing an Anglo French treaty. Hearst claimed no complaint and said America had saved France during the war and could save it again by his departure. Paris reports confirm an expulsion order with no reason given.
A Denver police dog, three year old Chuck Elfish, is described as not resembling a cop. Patrolman George Magor says the dog chases officers and pulled at his trousers during a street fight, while Chuck calls the dog gentlemanly and well behaved. The dog vanished with parts of the officer’s uniform after the incident.
Thelma Wooten, 24, died from bullet wounds in Mobile Alabama as Deputies T H Sullivan and C C Lane were served with murder warrants after firing into a passing car in which she rode. The officers, jailed without bail, claimed the vehicle was transporting liquor.
The state bureau of highways in Boise announced bids for surfacing 5.8 miles of the Old Oregon Trail between Soda Springs and Alexander with crushed gravel. The bid opening is set for May 2 in Boise, with September date on the notice.

At Curtiss Reynolds Airport Chicago four airmen died during the 1930 National Air Races. Captain Arthur Page Jr. of Washington led the Thompson trophy speed event before his ship crashed and exploded. Spectators watched as Page’s plane reached 207 mph before a fatal plunge. Also killed were three other flyers during the Ten Days of Competition.
Justice of the Peace J C Madison dismissed charges of conspiring to assassinate Governor Doyle E Carlton against Fred O Eberhardt and others for insufficient evidence. He noted the conspiracy was a misdemeanor and that the state failed to make a strong case to bind the defendants over for trial.
AP reports Coste and Bel licoste Coste’s plane the Question Mark completed a nonstop crossing from Paris to New York. They passed over Canso Nova Scotia at 9 35 this morning heading southwest toward landfall near St Pierre in the Miquelon group. Dense fog lingered on the coast but they expected to reach New York by late afternoon.
