Berlin reports the prominent gun maker Herr Krupp died suddenly at Basen near Hoegla at 4 o clock this afternoon. The death by apoplexy ends the life of a key figure in modern civilization.
New York reports Socialists rising from 86 000 votes in 1900 to over 400 000 in 1904 with official totals possibly 500 000. Massachusetts cities like Cambridge Boston Brockton Quincy show sharp gains and Milwaukee Chicago Indiana and Ohio also report sizable Socialist votes.
The record shows Socialist tallies in Cincinnati 5078 Toledo 2000 Dayton 1541 Cleveland 2100 and small towns with large gains Debs estate votes 4847 in 1900. Covington Kentucky up from 846 to 1708 Campbell County 206 for Dota and over 1200 Socialist votes this year.
President Roosevelt arrived in Philadelphia for Founders Day exercises and the dedication of the Central High School building costing 15 million dollars. He spoke at the Union League banquet with Cabinet members except Hay Moody and Knox present. The dedication drew about 2000 attendees, mostly alumni, as the building opened after eight years of construction.
Sixty two student societies with about 2800 members from Berlin University the technical institute and other city schools held a meeting at the Philharmonic hall denouncing pistols as a tool of trouble. They urged the minister of war to grant students equal voice with officers courts of honor and to allow pistols only for grave family insults or when one party cannot wield the sword.
Hamline halfback and coach Paul Rader lies in precarious condition after the Hamline Carlton game. A son of Daniel Rader, he once starred for Colorado for two seasons, helping the far west champions.
Des Moines reports large loot from a Rock Island line hold-up near Davenport. U S Express cites about $1,000 to $4,000 loss. Davenport railroad offices claim $10,000 to $20,000 due to money and jewelry. Robbers fled toward Mississippi, masks and dark clothing. Police scour woods. no injuries reported.
In New Orleans on November 22 Samuel Gompers was unanimously reelected president of the American Federation of Labor. James Duncan was unanimously reelected first vice president and John Mitchell was elected second vice president. In Davenport on November 22 officers of the United States Express Company reported only 500 dollars in the safe when it was dynamited.
Scranton reports the Arbitration Commission adjourned until December 8 with both mine workers and employers awaiting direct talks at home. Most commissioners and out of town lawyers departed for their residences as the process remains in an indefinite form.
Consul General Gudger arriving from Wisconsin reports a peace treaty signed between revolutionary general Herrera and government commissioners. The accord requires Herrera to surrender the entire revolutionary fleet Padilla Darien Gateia and Boyaca along with arms and munitions from Cauca and Panama and to fund the return of soldiers to civilian life. The treaty also calls on Congress to decide canal laws elections and currency.
The government case against the so called beef trust was scheduled for hearing in the United States court on December 16 before Judge Grosscap.
Athens Ohio November 22 two hundred miners strike after Mine Mector foreman Oleronos Russell was discharged for skipping work to hunt rabbits. Local men protested the firing and halted operations at the mine demanding reinstatement.
The Idaho State Pardon Board heard arguments for Mrs Josie Kensler on a pardon petition with Hawley and Dunton urging mercy. They cited health, prison conditions, and public policy while Ambiguity remained about guilt and potential legislative costs. The board adjourned the Kensler matter and denied several other pardons including Ernest Rathbone and multiple previous cases.
A Wellston Ohio dispatch reports Mr and Mrs A Rapp of this city are heirs to a vast fortune valued at about 26 million in Germany. The estate stems from a 18th century elopement between Ursula von Peterholtz and George Rapp, with descendants in America missing legacies but receiving other will provisions. Mr A Roary, a Rapp nephew, is also entitled to a share.
Bertha Sheldon faced by G A Darlington in Ann Artor Michigan after a quarrel over an escort incident. Darlington, a packer and University School of Music student, shot her in the arm then killed himself. He had come from Strathcona Ontario and served in the South African War. He was about twenty four.
A cablegram from the Philippine commission states cholera cases fell to five per day from thirty four a week ago. Officials feel relieved and believe the Mariquina watershed supplying Manila water remains uncontaminated. Earlier fears of outbreak in the Mariquina region prompted strict precautions.
In New Haven on November 22 Yale and Harvard drew over thirty thousand fans as Yale struck twice in the opening 15 minutes to lead 12 0 at halftime. Harvard mounted a comeback and held the Elis without further score.
