Widows and mothers wait anxiously as state and government officials attempt to revive rescue work at the St. Paul coal mine. Fire flared anew inside while miners were trapped nearly 300 deep, and officials added water to the pit as dawn broke and preparations to lower rescuers resumed.
Fire Marshal James Horan of Chicago traveled to Cherry after dispatching five tank cars carrying fifty thousand gallons of water, five thousand feet of hose, thirty-six hand extinguishers, and iron pipe to the stricken village for firefighting relief.
Washington November 16. The National Association of Railway Commissioners begins its twenty first annual convention. Members include Interstate Commerce Commission officials and state railway officers. Topics include delays in enforcing orders rates classification powers duties amendments to the act to regulate commerce car service demurrage construction and operating costs and grade crossings. The group plans amendments to the interstate commerce law and approval of the president’s advocated changes.
An international conference of topographers met in London to design a world map to be accepted as official by all represented countries. It grows from Geneva’s geographic congress. The United States is represented by Stephen J. Kubel and Bailey Willis of the U S Geological Survey.
A dynamite charge detonated in the hall of Crete's Chamber of Deputies in Canea last night. The building was empty, damage minimal. Authorities attribute the act to annexationists, who oppose forming a new government.
Ex Secretary of the Treasury John G. Carlisle was reported this morning to be in better condition in New York as updates on his health were released.
Governor James H. Brady says the Johnson Jeffries bout cannot be staged in Idaho. He urges managers to keep the fight out of the Gem State, while stressing Idaho as temperate, moral, and law abiding. Nampa and Moscow athletic groups hoped to bring the bout to Idaho.
R. O. Thompson a Norvell Shapleigh Hardware traveling salesman from St. Louis died of appendicitis in Idaho Falls at 9 20 Sunday night. His body was moved to Pocatello then to Salina Kansas for burial beside his father as his mother accompanied the casket. Funeral services were conducted in Idaho Falls by Rev. Jones with many traveling men in attendance and numerous floral tributes placed on the casket.
New York November 16 Robert Morrison of Brooklyn, whose comb factory burned last week with the loss of his son and nine workers, committed death by inhaling illuminating gas to end his life.
United States Senator Robert La Follette of Wisconsin will deliver a lecture on Representative Government at the Auditorium tonight. The Civic Club of the city sponsors the event and a fine musical program is planned.
Mrs. Nicholas Longworth and her husband support the tuberculosis crusade at a Cincinnati meeting. She sold flags to raise funds with the first flag bringing $100 and total collections reaching several hundred dollars. The photo features Mrs. Longworth, daughter of former president Theodore Roosevelt.
President Taft officially designates Thursday November 25 as a day of general thanks. He urges Americans to gather in churches, acknowledge divine blessings, and pause work to praise Almighty God. The proclamation notes peaceful year, bountiful crops, and national progress.

Emil Victor was hanged for the brutal July murder of J W Christie, his wife and daughter, and neighbor Michael Ronaye in a farm yard near Aberdeen. The quadruple crime, planned as a robbery, ended when Victor killed Christie, Ronaye, Mrs Christie, and Mildred Christie before fleeing. He was captured the next day and found guilty.
Boise date reports Attorney General D C McDougall says the 120000 University of Idaho bond issue remains valid despite a prior 73000 bond being ruled unconstitutional. State funds and permanent funds balance protection, and Governor Brady will not call a special session to authorize the 73000 issue. The regents can manage until the next regular legislature with proper supervision.
Chicago on November 16 reports December wheat finished at 1071 cents per bushel. Market notes show steady trading with modest gains as supply concerns and weather outlook influence futures.
