Sioux Falls November 5 AP observers say Nonpartisan league gains in South Dakota were surprising after Republicans swept the state in Tuesday's election. Yet urban districts mostly fell behind and rural areas showed bigger losses, indicating no real surge in league strength despite some districts showing league leads.
Emmett Bancroft alias Neil Hart was hanged in Salem for the July 25 murder of Sheriff Til Taylor during a Pendleton jail break. The first Oregon execution since capital punishment was reintroduced, Bancroft confessed after a manhunt that spanned Oregon Washington and Idaho.

Miss Edna Ellis an 18 year old girl was found slain in a vacant lot in St Louis. Her throat was slit and she had been beaten with numerous injuries. A razor lay nearby and police said neighbours did not hear her cries. The body showed signs of struggle and was found after her mother reported she did not return home last night.
Washington reports Commander J Terhune naval governor of Samoa shot and killed himself at noon November 3. A dispatch received by the navy department confirms the suicide.
New York officials disclosed that Robert Brindell, president of the Building Trades Council, demanded twenty five thousand dollars to ensure no delays in Gotham National's Broadway tower project. Albert Volk testified Brindell’s fees were included in building estimates as a cost element. Bench warrants were issued for three indicted in the building trust case.
The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled that railroad employees in semi executive roles except supervisory station agents qualify as subordinate officials. Subordinate officials may file wage questions with the labor board and receive representation on the board, while supervisory station agents are considered officials of the railroad.
Jules W. Arnstein known as Nicky Arnstein entered a not guilty plea before Justice Gould on charges of conspiring to import stolen securities from New York. He reserved the right to change or withdraw his plea within a week. Co-defendants David W. Sullivan and Wilen W. Easterday also pleaded not guilty and are free on bond.

He asks the U S to express its stance on American newspapers abroad facing arrest and deportation without hearings. He argues Americans abroad deserve the same due process as aliens at home.

Five seats in Minnesota Missouri New York and a Tennessee race could push the majority higher as late returns come in. Senate majority settled with Ernst victory in Kentucky and Montana Stateline electoral totals place Harding at 404.

The road carried a corporate surplus of 241,781,197 and 48,574,239 was charged off to depreciation on equipment. If the application is granted a remaining corporate surplus of 101,781,197 will be shown.

They were among thirteen gamblers indicted earlier in the week and were to appear in court. Weaver told reporters the charges against them are fabrications.
