Liquor license ordinance passed by the city council last night limits saloons in Pocatello to 17 until the population reaches 17 000. Fire limits are extended and meeting nights changed. A sewerage system survey is ordered.
The council passed the retail liquor license ordinance and extended fire limits. A survey for a sewerage system was ordered, meeting nights shifted to the first and third Thursdays, and theater license reductions sent to the ordinance committee. Fees for draysmen plumbers and second hand dealers were to be collected, a poll tax levy set, and funds to pay current warrants with current funds.
The city council held its longest adjourned meeting on record, ending near 1:00. Mayor Loux presided. Alderman Fust and City Clerk Gilmore left early, Bistline took the clerk’s desk, and discussions ranged from a train carrying Utah Idaho Wyoming girls to cement sidewalk extensions and license remissions.
Canton residents arrive for Mrs. McKinley funeral as rumors of Michael Czolgosz resurfacing are dismissed. Police guard President Roosevelt with United States Marshal Chandler and two detectives close by. Three strangers detained to be questioned. Justice Day declines comment on a prowler report. Michael Czolgosz reportedly heads toward Newcastle, Pa. to honor his wife’s grave.
The Eighth grade chorus and High School pupils perform Longfellow adapted cantata The Building of the Ship at the Congregational Church tonight at 8:30 with music arranged by Henry Lahee. Admission is ten cents. Cast includes Ethel Peake, Ernest Loux, Frances Whittlesey, and Florence Harvey among others.
North Vancouver May 20 officials of the St Pierre Mission report forty fishermen missing. The non fishing schooners left St Pierre for the Grand Banks two months ago and have not been heard from since.
In Westlawn cemetery Canton honors Mrs McKinley with simple rites attended by President Roosevelt, Vice President Fairbanks, Governor Harris and officials. Streets closed, schools dismissed, and crowds kept orderly as casket rests in McKinley home library with rose tributes and four hymns.
Harold, two year old son of Editor W H Peck of the Blackfoot Mail, died Saturday afternoon from injuries after a fall from a high chair. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at 2 PM.
A proclamation from the Swatvan Revolutionary Society declares the uprising aims to exterminate officials and burn yanens, while foreign missionaries flee to Swatow. Mission stations except the German mission at Lien Chow have not been molested.
A general strike of about 700 machinists on the Louisville and Nashville line was ordered today to force union recognition and a uniform wage scale across shops. No wage increase was demanded.

Davis Jensen faces trial before Judge Budge in district court after a jury was selected. Prosecutor Gray alleges Jensen received a saddle stolen from a Short Line box car at McCammon last January. Defense aims to undermine Rouse's testimony while witnesses from McCammon challenge his veracity.
The scout cruiser Birmingham was launched in Quincy Mass with Mary Campbell of Birmingham Alabama breaking a champagne bottle on the prow as the ship slid down the ways marking a modern warship debut.
President Roosevelt will deliver the Memorial Day address in Indianapolis aided by Vice President Fairbanks. They arrive from Canton on the morrow forenoon and participation in the ceremonies is planned.
