Ten thousand former service men now army reservists protested at the national military shrine in Tokio calling for nationwide reserve unity for the fatherland. The immigration bill’s exclusion clause shocks native churches, weakening trust in missionaries and prompting many Japanese Christians to leave.
Washington May 26 The supreme court held cities may use police power to restrict doctors from dispensing more than half a pint of intoxicating liquor per prescription. Merlin W Hixson a Los Angeles druggist fought the law claiming federal prohibition allows one pint. State courts upheld the ordinance.
Washington May 26 The senate agriculture committee decided to reconsider its rejection of the Ford Muscle Shoals bill and also the Norris bill proposing government operation of the property.
The Senate committee on reform and national security opened a study into detective methods used in the Means diary disappearance saga. Witnesses testified that Means handed his papers to two men posing as for Chair man Bhart and that no one entered Means’ home between six and eight p m on the alleged night. Attorney Fred J Cox testified he visited Means at 7 p m that same night and said they were college friends.
A very light snow fell in Chicago yesterday, marking the third latest snowfall in over 50 years, the weather bureau said. Temperatures this morning were around 45 degrees.

The lower courts rejected those contentions.
Shanghai May 26 AP reports Captain Pelletier D'Oisy the Paris to Tokio aviator will delay takeoff until daylight Wednesday due to engine trouble. He had planned to depart tomorrow morning and will now leave around 4:30 am for Nanking, continuing via Peking and Korea with a Chinese airline offer. He flies with General Ho Eng Ling's air line after his own plane was wrecked on landing.
Police report a daytime burglary at a downtown Tiger Wiggly where culprits moved a safe containing 100 dollars in cash and 800 dollars in checks. No trace yet as Rae aeee and loot vehicle remain unidentified.
Ogden Utah May 26 AP efforts of Ogden merchants who close stores on Sunday to curb unfair competition faced a test when 10 grocers mostly from neighborhood districts were arraigned by police on Sunday closing charges. Police said the group appeared defiant and would push the law. one grocer was arrested three times within hours.
Chicago May 26 AP state attorney and police hunted clues all night for the kidnapper and possible murderer of 12 year old Robert Franks son of Jacob Franks retired millionaire pawn broker and manufacturer as nude body was found and funeral held. Three men in a gray car near the private school were questioned.
Washington May 26 The conference tax bill, already passed by the senate, was approved today by the house. It provides a 25 percent reduction on income taxes this year, a permanent downward revision of rates, and a 26 percent cut on earned incomes of 10 000 or less. The measure moves to President Coolidge amid mixed Republican support and Treasury opposition to publicity provisions. The vote was 376 to 9 with a narrow Republican split against limits on publicity.
Chicago reports a bobbed haired bandit, a blonde 17 year old who giggles as she robs. A taxi driver named Carl Gepford surrendered his taxi, 27 dollars, and his uniform cap to two male companions and the girl who brandished a pistol. The trio vanished and no trace has been found.
Honolulu reports unusual activity at Kilauea as volcanologist Professor T. A. Jaggar plans to reach the islands next Wednesday aboard the Manoa. An air meet will escort him from Hilo to the volcano after a record electrical display and a noon eruption.
Crowds gathered since morning around Victoria Station to greet King Victor Emmanuel II Queen Helena of Italy and Prince of Piedmont with Princess Mafalda as they arrived from Dover where the Prince of Wales had met them.

Mary Tenney of Los Angeles files a $200,000 damages suit against Jack Kearns manager for Jack Dempsey alleging criminal assault on May 3. She seeks $100,000 actual damages for mental anguish and $100,000 punitive damages claiming she was overcome by force and forced to use narcotics.

New York May 26 report states Detroit Tigers first baseman Blue and Yankees substitute fielder Mike McNally were indefinitely suspended by President John of the pennant panel before today's game due to unresolved actions at Yankee Stadium yesterday.
In Meyers Florida on May 26 a mob killed two Black youths identified as suspects in attacks on two white girls. Wilson was taken from the sheriff and Williams was pulled from a northbound freight train. Both victims are reported seriously injured.
Ogden, May 26. Mrs. Leila V. Cowens, 42, widow who ran a furnished rooms house, was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a small room off the kitchen. Coroner attributes death to self-act. A neighbor said she had spoken of despondency and left a letter with a Denver brother’s address in her trunk. Police investigated this afternoon.
Washington lawmakers demand action on farm relief and reclamation bills before June 7 adjournment. Senator Frazier warns against skipping relief, urging Norris-Sinclair or McNary-Haugen. Senator Borah stresses reclamation aid to protect homes on projects as Longworth signals House adjournment by mid next week.
Major Frederick IL. Martin former commander of the United States army round the world flight said a mirage caused his plane to deviate from its course and crash on a mountain near Port Moller on April 30. He described a gradual slide down the slope after a collision with the mountain while praising his survival and stating he will await orders from Washington before resuming command. Staff Sergeant Alva L. Harvey accompanied him.
President Coolidge signed the immigration bill after vigorous opposition to Japanese exclusion. Exclusion takes effect July 1 under the legislation, with overrides and conference reports pushing the date forward in some versions. The House approved 828 to 71 and the Senate 62 to 6.
