The Comintern announced its dissolution in Moscow to boost unity against fascism and war effort cooperation. The executive committee said the body was outmoded and hampered national party strengthening, urging national sections to ratify the step amid wartime conditions.
William Henry Witty prominent attorney and former Bannock county born Kentucky 1872 died after brief illness in a local hospital He practiced law in Wyckliffe and Pocatello served in Idaho state senate 1920 24 and held leadership roles with the Northern Baptist church YMCA and fraternal orders His survivors include Esther Olsen Witty.
The state department said Japan has shown reason to hope for a second exchange of about 1,500 American civilians for an equal number of Japanese held in the United States. Negotiations for further exchanges of Americans in Japanese territory and Japanese in the United States have been under way since the first transfer last summer. The department is locating Japanese in the United States deemed suitable for repatriation, but no date can be given. Citizens of other American republics and Canada would be included, as well as Japanese from Latin American countries and Canada.
More than 36 000 CIO united rubber workers halted production at four Akron Ohio plants Saturday night with thousands more possible. Workers protested a wartime labor board wage decision. Firestone Goodrich and General Tire reported large shifts kept away, totaling tens of thousands.
The United Nations Food Conference in Hot Springs, under Chairman Marvin Jones, eased press access but refused Republican demands to attend all sessions. Jones said committees are nearly finished and lobby access will be allowed 6 to 9 p.m. unless an executive session is in progress. Bradley of Michigan and Smith of Ohio pledged further action to secure access.

The 22nd annual Veterans of Foreign Wars Buddy Poppy drive sets a local quota of 4000, a 60 percent increase over last year, with Eaton Rapids Michigan as the national center. Post No. 735 and the Ladies Auxiliary of Pocatello announce Mrs. R. E. Schmidt, Auxiliary president, as sponsor and Mrs. L. A. Watts as local committee chair.
Bannock county men leaving for military service Monday will be honored at 8 30 am at the Elks temple in Pocatello. The program includes pledges, remarks by railroad federation leaders, VFW and American Legion speeches, student musical numbers, and gift presentations. A parade to Union Pacific station will follow led by the American Legion color guard and the high school band. Several Bannock county men residing outside Pocatello are listed among the draftees.
Richard D. Leach, 60, founder of R. D. Leach and Company CPAs and a noted local businessman, died Friday in Hollywood after a yearlong illness. Born in 1883 in St Louis, he moved west young and lived in Idaho and southern California, survived by widow Hannah Foley Leach, two adopted children, son Patrick in the army, daughter Mary in Hollywood, and foster brother Hamilton Swift. He had earlier worked for Fred Murphey Cigar or H and M company, and pursued mining in central Idaho before turning to public accounting.
Boise. Raymond J. Briggs, WPB district manager, says new parts for home radio sets are available only after the worn part is turned in and classified unrepairable. The rule covers radio dealers and home set owners. He adds that no used automotive part may be scrapped or sold as scrap unless it is deemed no longer serviceable, though selling vehicles to wreckers remains allowed.

Successful applicants go on inactive status until needed and endure four months of training at the University of Virginia before active duty.
John Howard Jackson 38 of Salt Lake City and Mary Erilda Jacobsen of Pocatello obtained a marriage license in Salt Lake City on Saturday.
American forces on Attu have split Japanese remnants into three isolated groups as the 12th day of fighting continues. Fighter bombers hit Attu village and fuel depots while US forces threaten to press the final assault. Japanese positions include areas around Chichagof harbor and valley and the shores near Lake Nicholas.
U S Air Force in the South Pacific profiles Harry Wilson once a Penn State and West Point star. Now 41 and a colonel, he trains a medium bomber group on masthead bombing of surface ships a technique seen in the Bismarck Sea campaign.
London dispatch reports Soviet credited airmen and gunners with downing 65 German planes in a raid near Kurks a major base supplying Red Army troops. Soviet monitor tallies 56 German planes shot down by fighters and nine by anti aircraft crews on Saturday morning. Ten Russian planes were lost.
MEMPHIS report states Alonzo Locke a Peabody hotel waiter for 40 years will deliver the commencement address at Manassas Negro High School. Principal J A Hays notes Locke lacks formal education but is a graduate of the school of experience.

The battleship Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor has been righted after months of salvage work. Navy reports say of 19 vessels sunk or damaged on December 7 1941 only three losses remain and salvage exceeds 50 percent including ships Arizona Cassin and Downes. Rear Admiral Furlong and Commander Whitaker led the effort and guided reporters aboard the Oklahoma to see the ship’s deck and captain’s cabin.
