Picked up as robber suspect in Alliance arrest

An unnamed man arrested in Alliance is suspected of robbing a Union Pacific mail car between Cheyenne and Green River Wyoming. About $30 in stamps were found with him. He refused to identify himself. Postoffice Inspector Smith of Denver said the prisoner should be held for further investigation and suspected possible links to a Brush Colorado post office robbery.

Forest fire crosses into national forest near Wales area

Duluth Minnesota May 21 fire in the Wales branch of the state forest reserve crossed into the national forest camps Nos 8 and 1060 of the St Croix Lumber company burned. A crew of thirty men rushed to assist state and cooperative forces from Ely.

Falsehood of Milwaukee flag and Pershing welcome story

Milwaukee officials denied a nationwide report that eight aldermen refused to fly the American flag over City Hall or post a welcome sign for General Pershing. Phil A. Gray, head of the Milwaukee Association of Commerce, called the report a cowardly lie and defended Milwaukee’s loyalty. The Socialist minority blocked a welcome sign by delaying action.

Collie’s Life Is Saved by Court Order

In Kansas City on May 21, the probate court granted executors’ request to overturn a will provision that ordered “Laddie” the collie to be humanely chloroformed. The dog will be placed under the care of Mrs. Carrie Lane, a friend of the deceased mistress, who has cared for him since her death.

Wealthy woman a kleptomaniac in Chicago case

May 21 AP report says Mrs. Joseph Heil, wife of a wealthy broker, confessed to a year of robbing wealthy homes as a maid. Police found loot including jewelry and platinum pins. four former employers identified her. She is 38, pregnant soon, and held on four robbery charges. Her husband earns over $150,000 annually.

Robber Identified In Mail Train Thefts In California

Roy Gardner, an escaped mail robber, was identified by mail clerk Ralph Decker as the man who robbed the Southern Pacific mail car on train No. 20 near New Castle. Meat in cold storage falls below year and three year averages

Washington reports total stocks of meat in cold storage and packing plants are 211 million pounds under last year and about 261 million pounds under the three year average.
