Juarez May 17 Provisional President Francisco Madero and his cabinet met at 11 today to draft a final peace agreement to be telegraphed to President Diaz. Foreign Minister De La Barra says peace negotiations likely reach a definite favorable result at today’s cabinet meeting in Mexico City.
Eagle Pass reports a hundred federal cavalry arrive overnight to bolster Ciudad Porfirio Diaz across the river. With two bands of rebels within twelve miles, Col. Pena says he will fight if attacked as two thousand refugees crowd Eagle Pass. Mexican cavalry from Las Vacas say the town must not fall without a battle.
Tom Mc Carey of the Pacific Athletic Club said officials expect signatures on articles soon for a Wolgast versus McFarland bout. Both managers have agreed to terms and the fight is set for Arbor Day as planned.
Evanston hosts annual meetings of the Mississippi Valley Historical association North Central History Teachers' association and Illinois Historical society under Northwestern University auspices. Proceedings continue through the week.

Theodore Turner resigns the presidency of the Farmers & Traders Bank of Bannock city while maintaining bank directors. He buys a heavier stake and becomes president of Bannock Abstract, Deposit & Trust company, citing time and extensive duties. His prior roles include state auditor and Bannock county senator, with a credited role in founding the Academy of Idaho.
Chicago May 17 July wheat closed at 2.0 a cent.
Washington May 17 Democratic members of the house push back at Chairman Henry of the rules committee for alleged usurpation of caucus powers in naming the sugar trust investigating panel. Henry says he acted as private individual, prompting charges of incognito statesmanship and objections from Broussard Martin and Fitzgerald. Senator Penrose predicts rapid end to reciprocity bill hearings.
Senator Stone of Missouri told the Senate Finance Committee at a May 17 hearing on reciprocity and free list bills that he would press for a vote soon. He warned against letting the hearings drag on indefinitely. An unsuccessful attempt by the committee occurred.
In Washington on May 17 Senators Jones of Washington Brown of Nebraska Culberson of Texas and Reed of Missouri introduced bills to amend the Sherman law. The measures aim to offset the Supreme Court interpretation by Chief Justice White and to remove court discretion to distinguish between good and bad trusts.
Washington buzzed over President Taft remarks about small headed men to clubs that exclude prominent figures. Reportedly aimed at a New York congressman and several newly elected senators, the president’s comments were seen as directed at a friend of his and at recent membership exclusions in this city.
Harbin Kirin suffered a great blaze in which about 40,000 people were left homeless. The disaster caused an estimated 20 million dollars in losses with 4000 shops 15 banks and 8387 other buildings destroyed.

Upper floors to be lodge rooms and lower floor rented as store space. A loan from a building and loan company secures the funds for summer construction.
Joseph Gish of American Falls seeks a writ of probable cause from Idaho's Supreme Court after a Oneida county district court conviction under the last session's search and seizure law. He was sentenced to four months and a $400 fine for having intoxicating liquor in his son, with no sale charge or supporting evidence. appeal bond sought.
Cheyenne May 17 One Private Lepp of Company K Second Infantry crushed a skull and wounded two others at Fort Russell before escaping the guard house. He assaulted Private Burgess with a crow bar and fired at Sergeant Coil and another wounded soldier as he fled. Burgess is at the point of death.
Boise May 17 The state land board met to consider leasing Lava springs in Bannock county to Dr Henry W Cloudiek of Twin Falls and to auction state lands near Burley. If approved the springs will gain facilities and parks with 20 percent of gross receipts reinvested.
The Odd Fellows of South Dakota dedicated a magnificent home for aged and indigent members in Dell Rapids on May 17. Grand lodge led the ceremonies with large delegations from Sioux Falls, Huron and other towns attending.
May 17 opening session drew large attendance as city marshals and chiefs of police of Texas gathered in Fort Worth. Mayor Davis welcomed guests. The afternoon feature was a speech by resident John P. Brown of Weatherford. Sessions continue through Friday afternoon.
J R Crum of Pocatello fought for the Mexican insurrectos in the Juarez battle and survived after being reported killed. He describes 38 hours of fighting, little food or water, and aiding a dying American in the street while rebels claimed glory for leaders.

Delegates from southern Idaho Elks lodges organized the B P O E Elks Protective Association of Idaho with Frank W. Dice as president and William Wallin as secretary. They plan a Jackson Hole Yellowstone refuge by buying ranches and feeding elk to reduce winter mortality and prevent extinction.
More than two hundred delegates from thirty grand jurisdictions in the United States and Canada attend the Royal Arcanum supreme council meeting in Minneapolis. Opening sessions cover officer and committee reports. total membership reaches 250,000 with affairs in satisfactory condition.
