Union leaders signaled a concerted drive on five large independent steel firms to win CIO recognition as sole bargaining agents. Philip Murray, CIO Steel Workers chairman, authorized strikes if needed after a Pittsburgh strategy meeting.
Henderson Texas May 15 W W Shaw superintendent of the London Independent school district issued a statement of feelings and position after an explosion in March killed hundreds of students and teachers. He said he continued after appeals from trustees oil companies and friends and that he bore no more responsibility than others while resigning would shift the blame. He lost a son in the blast.
Five Idaho Southern women students depart early Friday for Logan Utah to represent the university at Utah State Agricultural College Co ed Day. They will meet with co eds from Idaho and Utah to discuss student issues and visit sorority houses while attending meetings and meals, returning Saturday night.
Alfred E. Smith veteran navigator of the political seas sails on his first trip to Europe. He plans a pleasure voyage visiting the pope in Rome then Naples Paris London and Dublin with the Smiths aboard.
Will J. Post of Salt Lake City says Ambassador Hotel will be a seven story brick and steel building at Second Avenue East and Shoshone Street with 156 rooms and eight shops costing 300000 dollars. Rogerson Hotel adds a three story annex costing 125000 dollars with 50 rooms to be completed by October.

Dave Whitaker of the Pocatello police force reportedly resigned on Saturday night. Cedric Evans is named to succeed him, following Whitaker's earlier injuries from a fall at the Tear of Drive-In market on East Center Street. Chief R. M. Pugmire declined comment on the removal.
Otto C. Ernst a Hamburg cotton broker aged 78 who was injured in the destruction of the airship Hindenburg on May 6 died today in Lakewood New Jersey. The Hamburg native had been hospitalized after the disaster and is survived by several relatives.
London reports Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin faces renewed royal tension as he retreats to Chequers with dominion leaders to discuss empire economics and the Wallis Warfield marriage issue. Edward VIII opposes any royal title for Wallis, a matter kept from public view amid December crisis echoes. Paris tailors measure the duke of Windsor for a wedding suit as an official date announcement is anticipated.
Amy Cox of Pocatello led her band to first place in class A at the regional high school music festival finals in Price Utah. Darwin Brown could not continue due to heat and strain. Cox became drum major and earned a first division rating. Other awards went to Preston in class B, Lava Hot Springs and McCammon in class C, with primary drum majors Reed Larsen Claude Evans Reece Hillmon and McCammon all taking first in their categories.
May 15 a two day rainstorm blew out to sea after wrecking life and property off shore and driving New England streams toward flood crests. Mass Vermont New Hampshire faced flood fears as drenched slopes drained into Connecticut Merrimack Housatonic Winooski rivers. Albert Graham Ober Jr of a Baltimore family was pitched into the sea ten miles off Block Island when the Baltimore yacht Flying Cloud lurched on a heavy sea.
Deary Idaho May students fail to reinstate Supt Ralph Kellom after school board declares vacancy. Walkout leaders of about 40 of 85 pupils vow to continue strike amid adjournment and ongoing action.
Milton Holt of Idaho Southern University led the Bengals to 67 points at the sixth annual Southern Idaho collegiate meet in Boise. Holt ran 9.5 seconds for the 100 yards, set a broad jump mark at 22 feet 8 inches, and tied the 220-yard dash record with a 22 seconds.
Lakehurst N J May 15 Investigators heard Hans Freund rigging officer aboard the dirigible describe his position in the tail when the flame tore through the stern. He was paused from testifying after impressing officials with his grasp of the disaster minutes and will return Monday for full examination. Otto Ernst Hamburg cotton importer died from burns bringing the death toll to thirty six. Freund noted a Manila landing rope was fouled by two fins during landing.
Police report states minor damage occurred Friday at 4 p m in a two car collision between A R Corbin of Boise and J W Burns of Pocatello no injuries reported.
Percy L. Gasaway known as the Cowboy Congressman died at 8 a m while being taken to Ada after a heart attack at his ranch near Coalgate. The former congressman, age 71, was defeated for reelection last November by Lyle Boren of Seminole.
Marion Francis Pollard a 26 year old of Kimberly was killed when the car he rode in overturned after hitting a hole near Hansen bridge six miles east of Twin Falls Pollard died instantly from a broken neck Leo Berry also of Kimberly the driver was uninjured officials said
A Washington Montreal express train collided with a Milton auto bound for a grade crossing, killing driver John C. Vasseur and four children Rene Larochelle 11 Howard 13 Earl Murray 8 and Earl Puller 14. Investigators say late running train and dark rain contributed. In Hamilton a separate crossing crash killed Mary Belle Carnell 54 and three of her children Lena Campbell 19 Paul Campbell 12 Martha Campbell 16, with two more injured.
Ay- Pat Hanlon 26 a former Army Air Corps flyer and William Mostert 27 a passenger were killed when Hanlon's private plane crashed to the ground from about 200 feet after takeoff. Hanlon had been carrying passengers from Philip port this spring and was giving Mostert a short pleasure ride when the accident happened.
