Ada county voters rejected a 425000 bond plan to build a new courthouse by 3822 yes to 1954 no. Rural districts split with Hilldale in the negative and Meridian voting 66 yes 284 no, leaving Boise city strong in favor but not enough to reach the two thirds required.
Captain Charles Lindbergh, planning a New York to Paris flight, arrived in St. Louis from San Diego after a nonstop 14 hour 5 minute first leg. He landed at Lambert Field after a brief low pass over the business district, then prepared for the Atlantic leg in a week or ten days.
Des Moines reports Cedric M. Lindholm of Minneapolis, an adult probation investigator, told the National Probation Association convention that inhibitional failures in early childhood lead to later life terror and crime. He blamed dating parents and other relatives as important factors and warned that lack of restraint before age six or seven increases delinquency.
Salt Lake City May 11 George F Bourne 26 a locomotive engineer for Utah Copper was burned to death when his small closed car was struck by an electrically propelled freight train at a level crossing en route from his home to Bingham where he worked The car caught fire and was consumed before rescue efforts by motorman K H Lundberg could help him
Milton B. Medary Jr opened the 16th annual AIA convention calling for a new truly American architecture and fusion of all arts. He warned the world is in revolt in architecture yet predicted a nobler future after the Jazz era. Awards were given to Lene Lowrie for sculpture and Frank Holmes for pottery for notable yearly work.
A jury of five women and seven men found John Van Sickel guilty of first degree murder in the slaying of Edward Razer, husband of Van Sickel’s paramour Sadie Razer. The jury recommended life imprisonment. Justice Black sentenced him to life in the state prison at Trenton. He showed no emotion.
General orders outline the Idaho national guard encampment at Boise from June 11 to 25 with morning drills and afternoons for schools lectures and athletics. Colonel M C McConnell adjutant general announced. Bids for forage and subsistence are being prepared and will be published soon. General orders likely to be issued to company commanders next week.
Snow blocked the Denver and Salt Lake railroad at the continental divide for 36 hours with derailed cars and ice on rails. Officials said trains would operate tonight and a passenger train would depart Denver as the worst blizzard in the road's history abated.
Cleveland May 11 AP A plea for a return to early evangelism was made at the World Service Inc convention of the Methodist Episcopal church. Twenty two bishops attended as plans were proposed to revive church activity in China and Mexico where work was disrupted. Bishop Edwin Hughes urged a return to frontier preaching. Leaders criticized missionary work as superficial and Bishop J R Edwards said the church bore responsibility for losing soul value.
Rome May 11 AP Pope Pius calls bishops to aid in a holy war against novels short stories dramas and pictures that promote sensual mysticism. The three fold aim denounce danger to youth ban unreadable works and warn Catholics that reading immoral books is a mortal sin regardless of formal condemnation.
New York May 11 AP The Bellanco monoplane Columbia planned a Saturday takeoff for a 2800 mile flight to Paris as the fate of Captains Nungesser and Coli remained in doubt. Ambassador Herrick warned such a flight could be misunderstood by France. W R Levine Columbia Aircraft president urged proceeding. pilot Clarence Chamberlin endorsed the move.
Anna Helen Weir, 24, a UC graduate, died at her home in Berkeley yesterday. Officials say despondency from nervous disorders linked to over-study at the university led to the self-inflicted death.
A May 11 Manila dinner for visiting U S congressmen drew sharp remarks from Representative John F Carew after discussions on the Philippine political scene. Senator Burton K Wheeler criticized Vice Governor Eugene A Gilmore over American attitudes in the Philippines.

In New York City on May 11 seven gunmen in two closed autos robbed an assistant pay master of the Borough Rapid Transit and two guards at 71st Street and First Avenue. They seized a $9,000 payroll and fled after wrecking the pay car and one of the robbers’ vehicles while nearly a score of shots were exchanged.

Vernal Utah May 11 AP Mrs James Barger 42 was crowned in Rock Point canal late yesterday afternoon when she lost control of an automobile she was learning to drive. Her husband in the car with her escaped after it plunged down an embankment but could not release his wife pinned by the steering wheel. Six children survive.

The Hakadate, famed for rum running and linked to Jack London, faces imminent release after a federal district court rulings voided its seizure by the coast guard Vaughn. The court found the vessel near Mexico, about 60 miles south of the U S border, violated a Panama treaty provision limiting seizures to ships within an hour of U S shores.
A 13 horsepower incandescent lamp, the largest commercial bulb, was rushed from Washington to Roosevelt Field New York for the Bellanca non stop flight to Paris. The lamp stands 1.5 feet in diameter and its brightness exceeds seven billion candle power when paired with a reflector.
Davis Ross McCreary ten months old lost balance while peering into a five gallon crock holding little water on a Sunbury porch. His mother, working nearby, found him in the crock and he was dead when she reached him. Ralph T. McCreary the father is a motor car salesman.
Denver May 11 The Great Northern Company announced it priced under contract for this year the largest sugar beet growing area in its history about 25 000 acres an increase of about 10 percent over last year meaning more beet production for the season and higher crop scale for the company.
About 100 representatives from chambers of commerce and business groups in Mexico City met to discuss relief measures and a possible moratorium. The session opposed a moratorium and adjourned without resolutions. Yaqui Indians burned three bridges and cut telegraph wires on the Southern Pacific of Mexico line near Torres Sonora halting communications to western Mexico. Mexican federals blamed the Yaquis for the damage as entrenchments were set by Nogales officials with rifle fire and signal fires seen on hillsides. Casualties were reported among locals in the Santa Barbara ranch fighting east of Nogales yesterday.
