Southern Pacific officials report rebels have ordered Americans to move families to the United States as the armistice expires and no peace party has convened. Rebels threaten action on the Mexican border if no agreement by Thursday night. American families are fleeing Mexico daily.
In El Paso on May 2 Judge Francisco Cartabajal fails to arrive on the morning train. Francisco I. Madero Jr and peace lieutenants grow perturbed as the armistice expires at noon tomorrow. Madero telephones federal intermediaries seeking updates while insurrector leaders at Madero headquarters express pleasure at rebel activity and seek a prolonged conference.
Mail advices from Torreon report insurrectos hold Lerdo and Gomez Palacio and control Aeiro where the American Smelting company operates. The municipal palace at Lerdo was burned and all prisoners freed. The men then caused further trouble in town.
A force of federal troops led by Luis Estrella from Magdalena Sonora reportedly clashed with rebels at Otates twenty miles east of Magdalena. The two hour battle ended with Estrella and three men escaping to Magdalena.
Report from Canton says foreigners in Shamien remain unharmed while rebels burn four government residences at Matshav and loot the town. Brigand chief Duk leads raids toward Matshan area as government forces hold Canton with gunboats on the canal. Wu leaders move west after raids on Sam Shui and neighboring towns. overall control by Canton authorities asserted.
The third get acquainted special train of the Oregon Short Line passed Pocatello heading west from Salt Lake. The itinerary includes Gooding Bliss King Hill Glenns Ferry Hammett Mountain Home Nampa Tuesday with stops at Brogan Vale Payette Weiser Ontario Nyssa Parma Notus Caldwell Meridian and Boise to follow on subsequent days. The party lists the officials aboard and will visit western Idaho towns this afternoon and in the days ahead.
A new trial was ordered for Christopher Columbus Wilson, president of the Wireless company, and six associates on charges of misuse of the mails. Judge Martin discharged the entire jury after prejudice by a juror was shown yesterday.
Fire early yesterday destroyed the Cottage hotel and an adjoining residence in American Falls. Loss estimated at 6000 to 9000 dollars with 1700 dollars insured. The residence belonged to the Abbott estate and was occupied by E L Barringer. fire is thought incendiary. Hose reel found wired. prior arson attempt noted on a rear wall with gasoline.
Two or more sons were killed and several injured after Chesapeake and Ohio passenger train No. 3 derailed in the Blue Ridge mountains ten miles from Hinton West Virginia this morning. The engineer and fireman are dead. Cause of the accident is not known.

Hammett sees a new hotel bank, six brick stores, homes, a 12000 dollar school building, and rapid town growth amid plans for extensive fruit and melon plantings along the Snake River canyon.

About 110 boys from towns between Baker City and Pocatello attended in Caldwell last Saturday. Delegations from Boise and Pocatello spoke on making good, with a banquet at the Methodist Church and city leaders welcoming the visitors. Pocatello led by example and invited Caldwell to host next year.
