Luther Bearskin Convicted of Double Murder

A United States circuit court jury found Luther Bearskin, a Shoshone Indian, guilty of two counts of murder in the killing of Charley Ingateur and Carl Ramsey on Bannock Creek near Pocatello on December 11, 1906. The jury recommended life imprisonment. Judge Dietrich sentenced Bearskin to hard labor for life at McNeill’s Island, Washington.

Harrisburg May 1. Testimony on a loan of 10000 on an unindorsed note to S N Williams of Pittsburgh, bidder for 2 million dollars in electrical fixtures for the new state capitol, will be taken up by an investigation committee. Casell is president of Pennsylvania Construction Company. Williams, a former state representative, faces a probe into nine million dollars spent on fittings and decorations.

Sailors Attacked by Santiago Police on Shore Leave

Washington reports Commander Tappan of the cruiser Tacoma says ten sailors were injured in an assault by Santiago police as they returned to their ship after shore leave. No official reason given, but sailors were reportedly singing and the incident marks a shift in port attitudes.
