Hanged by mob at Casper jail in 1900 lynching
Charles Francis Woodward, condemned killer of Sheriff Wm. Ricker, was seized by about 200 men at Casper Wyoming. After beating the jail door in with sledges, he was dragged outside the building and hanged from a tree within half an hour. A mob formed overnight and dispersed after the act as locals discussed a Supreme Court reprieve.
