Cape Town reports Cecil Rhodes died at 5 57 pm after a day of declining strength. The South African statesman and millionair e built a vast empire and will be remembered alongside Lord Clive for his imperial ambition and realized influence in the region.
Thos. Cooper is named general manager to replace W. G. Pearce who resigns to join Griffin Wheel Co. J. M. Hannaford becomes second vice president in charge of traffic replacing the promoted third vice president. Pearce leaves for Griffin, with Cooper’s headquarters in St. Paul. Changes take effect April 1.
Federated Millers in Chicago on March 26 formed the National Millers Federation representing 400 million dollars in capital and an annual flour output of 160 million barrels. The federation unites state associations and includes the National Millers Association and National Winter Wheat Millers Association.
Cholera cases near Manila total 26 with 21 deaths as of noon yesterday. No white persons affected. Medical authorities send experts to Malolos and Aparri to investigate five and two cases respectively.

Chris tian Nelson a railroad contractor and horseman is in jail in St Joseph Mo on a bigamy charge. He was brought from San Antonio Texas where he was arrested. Nelson admits three wives but claims ten others are myths. A key prosecution witness was married to him in St Joseph in September. The case will be tried in St Joseph.
Veer Lodge Mont March 25 Clinton Dotson convicted of murdering his father is sentenced by Judge Clements to be hanged April 4 James McArthur, his co conspirator, was hanged last September for the same crime.
The New York murder case of Albert Patrick, a lawyer, charged with killing William M. Rice, was given to the jury at 1 54 p m after closing arguments and instructions.
James E. Brown, who accompanied Joseph H. Marshall at California's first gold find in January 1848, died in Salt Lake City at 73. A Mormon convert, he joined Brigham Young’s trek, joined volunteers to California, helped build a sawmill near Sutter's Fort, and earned Seventy and patriarch roles. He left 21 children and 126 grandchildren.
A courier recounts a six day 70 mile trek from Warren to Thunder Mountain via the Salmon river south fork Elk Creek summit Beaver Creek and Monumental Creek. Curley Brewer built bridges and the “smoke house” at Elk Creek summit. The trip features copper and gold camps and a hardy mail run with makeshift bridges over Big Creek.

The Laguna province insurgent force under Cabellos surrenders to Lt Col Dougherty of the Seventh Infantry in Manila. Forty seven rifles and eighteen revolvers are turned in. Cabellos orders remaining insurgents in Laguna to cease hostilities.

The State Auditor received Bannock County’s annual finances showing total assessment over 5.5 million dollars. Salaries and district court expenses totaled 23,784.44 dollars. Revenue for the year reached 88,205.52 dollars with expenses at 81,838.65 dollars, leaving a treasury balance above 6,000 dollars.
