A blaze at Fish Furniture plant in Chicago on March 25 killed about twenty workers. Eleven bodies were recovered by 1:30 pm, with around 40 escaping. Firemen battled flames two and a half hours, finding three victims together in a praying pose. Leo Steeckel, a finishing department employee, faced Fire Marshal Horan after a cigar lighter allegedly ignited benzine tanks.
