Boise resident J. P. was robbed of 60 dollars by two women bandits, who held him at pistol point and forced him to the back of a building before taking his wallet and directing him to catch a train at the Union Hall. Cody reported the assailants warned him and then released him. Police seek the pair.
In Washington Senator Reed of Missouri urged Secretary Mellon resign amid the Teapot Dome bonds affair. He argued Mellon should quit after a $50,000 Sin clair bond deal and questioned why Mellon advised the share committee while a similar secret transaction occurred.
George C McDonald swears his wife Doris McDonald did not fire the fatal shots in the murder of taxi driver A Ouchard near the border. Doris McDonald remains jailed in Montreal as clemency efforts unfold after a confession attributed to her in Denver. The couple and a male companion were involved, with one third party not arrested.
The Post-Dispatch reports investigations into a senate committee probe reveal rumors of startling disclosures stemming from an innocent Christmas card shipment from Chicago to Chief Justice George F. Martin of the D C Court of Appeals. Martin says a mysterious express package mentioned in rumors contained Chicago printed cards consigned by his son-in-law George Buss to him. Buss works for Binelair Refining in Chicago. The name of Justice Biddons of the D C Supreme Court was linked as consignee but he denies any package and any contact with Sinclair interests.
The state road commission received bids this afternoon for a gravel road between Mt. Carmel Junction and Chamberlain's ranch in Washington county. Funded with federal aid, the project will form a major scenic link and integrate with the state road system.
Boston March 19 The naval board of investigation examined the six crew members of submarine 8 4 after it sank December 17 by the Paulding. Bodies lay in bunks and foot of ladder mud covered no shoes torpedo tubes closed. One body identified as Lieutenant Graham Newell Pitch. Evidence of sealed torpedo room door gas masks used, stethoscopes found, watch on engine.
Salt Lake City March 19 AP authorities say they shattered a major illicit liquor operation by seizing a large still on a ranch outside the city and arresting Bert Coon, 35, and Fp H. (Happy) Anderson. The still, allegedly costing 2000 dollars, could produce about 4400 gallons per run.
Tucson March 19 Mrs Eva Dugan convicted of the murder of A J V Mathis Uma county rancher was sentenced today to hang at the state prison at Ploverice June 1 A motion for a new trial was denied
In Nicaragua on March 19 an American Marine plane took two bullet holes while over the northern mountains once held by rebel chief Augustine Sandino. Lieut Frank H M Lumpoon Scribner’s plane was struck by snipers. a bomb was dropped but no explosion occurred. Lieut Vernon Guhman with Lieut Samson Scribner also fired on the snipers and dropped a bomb. casualties unknown.
In Del Rio Texas on Friday Mrs R 8 Cloud armed with a six shooter intervened as four convicts attacked her husband during a prisoner transport. She leaped from her car despite a sprained ankle and fired on the assailants, wounding one and causing others to surrender, the same woman previously saving him in a prior transport.
Chicago March 20 AP Judge Marcus Kavanaugh, after 33 years on the bench, argues 350,000 Americans live partly by crime and 12,000 murders occur yearly. He urges public action and endorses the death penalty and corporal punishment while blaming governors, legislators, police, and courts for crime. He proposes streamlined laws and alienists limited use, contending modern courts pamper criminals. Concluded on Page 2.
Snow from a major storm covers the East with 3 to 17 inches inland, 17 inches at Ausable Forks New York, and 3 to 14 inches across Pennsylvania. Boston sees heavy rain while New York City endures sleet turning to rain. The system reaches Quebec and Ontario and causes a rail collision injuring four passengers and three crew.

New York March 19 AP Nora Bayes musical comedy actress died after abdominal operation relapse in Brooklyn hospital at age 64. Born Milwaukee 1880 she starred in vaudeville and stage for over twenty years. Survived by husband Benjamin L Friedland three adopted children and previously divorced from Otto Gressings Noreworth Harry Clarke and Arthur Gordoni. She danced with Prince of Wales in 1924 London engagement.
In Wilmington California a wing failure sent a plane into a nose dive at 2900 feet. The craft struck a home yard, killing three, injuring two children. Pilot Jack Martin aged 24 and two passengers William Hulbert and Leonard English died. a girl, Jacinta Zamudio, 14, was knocked unconscious and injured.
