Britons Hinchcliffe and Elsie Mackay take the American built mono plane Endeavour from Cranwell England toward Newfoundland and New York. After 34 hours with no word officials fear a mishap as fog and distance complicate timing and rescue prospects.
A large Hungarian government delegation of about 480 officials arrived in New York to attend a monument unveiling for Louis. Police and bomb squads protected the crowd as tensions rose with anti-government demonstrators in the City Hall area.
