Governor orders militia as three court officials are slain following the conviction of Floyd Allen for illicit distilling. Moonshiners kill a Virginia judge and also slay the sheriff and prosecutor, with killers taking refuge in the mountains and promising resistance to capture.
Reports say Circuit Court Judge L T Massey, attorney William Foster, and Sheriff Lewis Webb were killed at Hillsville Carroll county with Floyd Allen named in one version as the shooter. A mob of mountaineers or Allen supporters are cited. Governor Mann may order troops to the Blue Ridge site.
In Hillsville, Judge Massie was slain on the bench during a sentencing for aiding an escape. Commonwealth Attorney Foster and Sheriff Lewis Webb were shot dead. Several jurors were seriously wounded as Floyd Allen and two brothers led a gang through a barn hideout, eluding pursuers with revolvers and ammunition.
In New York at the Hotel Astor tomorrow night Willie Hoppe and George Sutton renew their balkline billiards rivalry for the championship. Hoppe, holder of the 18.2 and 18.1 titles, seeks a second consecutive win in five weeks against Sutton who also contends for the balkline crown.

Chihuahua Mex March 14 Pasqual Orozco delays southern move until his advance guard seizes Jiminez after the federal garrison of 125 is captured yesterday. Orozco orders natives to surrender rifles and firearms under penalty. Washington March 14 The House adopts a resolution to bar export of war supplies to nations with domestic violence and Taft to issue a proclamation preventing arms shipments to Mexican revolutionists.
Lawrence reports a campaign by the University of Kansas English department to curb slang usage. Professor C G Dunlop called slang distasteful and said George Ade harms the English language, noting slang grips students and the nation.
A joint conference in New York considers demands by eastern railroad engineers for wage increases from 15 to 50 percent and standardization of wages. The engineers are represented by a committee from the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, while railroad executives attend for all major lines east of the Mississippi and north of the Chesapeake including the Grand Trunk of Canada.
The Central Passenger association set rail fares to the Democratic national convention in Baltimore and the Republican national convention in Chicago at a flat rate during a meeting in Chicago.

Naples March 14 The new Fabre line steamship Canada, recently rebuilt at Toulon, sailed from Naples today for maiden voyage to New York and Mediterranean services. The 14 000 ton vessel features modern equipment and will serve regular routes with advanced speed and capacity.
Topeka reports Governor Stubbs charges that Taft appointees use disreputable methods to block Kansas presidential primaries. He cabled President Taft seeking approval of such actions and claiming caucus plans would disenfranchise 90 percent of Republican voters. Congressman Anthony replied he doubts Stubbs’ claim and blames Stubbs appointees for officeholder misconduct.
