In Washington on March 12 Senator Reed of Missouri charged gross extravagance in the management of the food administration. He demanded that Hoover provide an accounting of the department's finances before the Senate.
Edward F. Keefer a Chicago stock merchant testified before the senate agricultural committee that FE. Dana Durand associate food administrator for Chicago directed J E Wilhelm of Cudahy to restrain livestock prices until beef was supplied to Great Britain.

Washington reports Chief Justice Edward D White entered his twenty-fifth year as a member of the Supreme Court. He first took seat as an associate justice on March 12, 1894, and became chief justice on December 12, 1910, more than sixteen years later.
A seaplane spots a submarine on the seabed and, with trawlers and a destroyer, tightens a wire cradle around the U boat. The craft deliver two explosive eggs that trigger a pair of explosions as the submarine sinks and is destroyed.
Consuela Hupp, 14, is the focal point as Elmer Hupp’s trial nears its end in Cleveland Ohio. Prosecutors depict Joyce as the rival in a love triangle. the girl’s pleas led Mrs Hupp to offer to testify but her husband forbade it. The 14 year old was at home when Joyce visited and was present during the fatal shooting.
Daniel A. Reed and five other United States food administration commissioners return from Europe to lecture at the Commercial club tomorrow night. Detroit March 12 Ken ry Ford will build a submarine killer plant costing over 1 000 000 on a 50 acre tract on the Lincoln highway between Newark New Jersey and New York. The plant will duplicate Ford's plant here and will turn out anti U boat craft in large numbers. The government will share part of the cost.
French Port March 12 An American steamship formerly a German vessel arrives with a smashed bridge and a shell hole in a smokestack after an encounter with a submarine. The vessel defended itself with its gun.
In El Paso on March 12 the womens committee for war stamp sales started dances requiring a war stamp for every third dance. Attendees must buy a stamp from the committee to participate in these special dances and may keep the stamps in their books afterward.
An American raiding party entered German trenches along the Toul sector at six this morning after a forty five minute artillery bombardment. They returned with material and information but no prisoners. It was the first raid by Americans without French aid and caused German troops to withdraw from the front line. The American fire reportedly destroyed German positions and tore gaps in wire entanglements while German batteries failed to halt the raid.
The railroad administration signaled plans to broaden government control of property to include major express companies. The move aims to extend authority over critical transportation infrastructure and logistics.
The March term of the United States district court for the eastern division of Idaho opened at the federal building with Judge Frank S. Dietrich presiding. District Attorney J. L. McClear, Marshal T.
