Labor unrest spreads across the auto industry with more than 100000 workers idle as strikes hit Chrysler plants in Detroit. United Automobile Workers pressed for recognition as sole bargaining agent amid sit down protests and factory closures.
Spanish defense chief Gen Jose Miaja says three captured Italians declared they were from a full Italian division taking part in the Madrid drive as Italy with 26 other nations had banned volunteers to Spain since February 20.

Governor Barzilla W. Clark appoints Dr. Andrew Warner of Twin Falls as business superintendent of the state mental hospital at Blackfoot. Dr. Charles Lowe remains in charge of medical and surgical work. Dr. Warner will handle non professional functions and may receive further announcements after studying Blackfoot conditions.
Spokane March 9 Miss Dubois daughter of the late Idaho senator Fred Dubois awaited a sanity hearing in a hospital psychopathic ward. Dr Arthur Lien ordered the WPA worker transferred from a jail cell where she had been for five days after her arrest in a Spokane cafe.
John Cusano of Pocatello, a U S journalism graduate from both the local university and the Moscow campus, is appointed manager of the United Press bureau in Butte. He recently joined UP after work at a NamPa paper and will cover the Montana Legislature session at Helena. He formerly worked for The Pocatello Tribune.
Boise March 9 A habeas corpus action challenged state penalties law on pardons. Judge Charles F Koelsch ruled the maximum sentence governs until minimum term and pardons board may release after time earned by good behavior. The ruling quashed Carl Haines case and notes boards have freed some inmates before minimums with good behavior deductions.
Executive Dean John R. Nichols told the Kiwait club of his recent trip to New Orleans for the National Education Association convention. He praised the city as an old world style metropolis. T. F. Silfast of Orange Transportation, recently transferred to Pocatello from Salt Lake City, attended the luncheon.
Construction of a 79880 dollar junior high school building began in Gooding Idaho yesterday. Bond sale totaling 50000 dollars to Sadler Wegener and Company of Boise was authorized last week to finance the project.
Governor Barzilla W. Clark warned he will veto five bond measures totaling 937000 for state institutional buildings and improvements. He urged pay-as-you-go finance, citing cost and debt concerns, and suggested a transaction tax as an alternative. The measures target Blackfoot Hospital Nampa state hospital for the insane Idaho University projects and facilities at Southern at Pocatello.
Denver officials report a former special policeman killed one patrolman and wounded another when they answered a call at his home. Officer Forrest E. Sawyer died. Officer Michael Carroll was wounded. Fred Stallings, a former special officer, also died after the exchange.
