Idaho lawmakers moved to adjourn as both chambers suspended rules to clear 40 bills. Key measures authorize a $10 million annual public school program funded by $5 million state general funds, with $3.025 million existing for the biennium. Senate also backed two anti labor measures, while house action remains needed.

A near west side four story rooming house at 1422 Washington Boulevard burned early today killing two men and a woman who leaped from windows and fatally burned man on a bed. Six others were injured as nearly 100 tenants fled. The dead include Mrs Kristoviesch and Warren Crockett with Kristo viesch dying later at the county hospital. Firemen said the blaze started on the first floor and ladders and a fire escape helped many tenants reach safety. Damage was estimated but not specified.
Reports from Rome estimate Mt Etna’s eight day eruption damaged Sicily between 650000 and 750000. Vineyards and forests bore the brunt while no towns were destroyed though some outlying houses were burned. Interior ministry says eruption over and lava flow to advance only a few feet more before cooling.
Shel don J. Barney 19 pleaded not guilty to first degree murder after a motion to quash was denied. He is accused of fatally stabbing Dee N. Lane 50 and then burning the corpse with gasoline. Trial set for April 8 at 10 a.m. He is held without bail in Weber county jail.
A severe weekend storm across the east caused at least 14 deaths with six in Pennsylvania five in New York and three in New England. Transportation statewide was disrupted as rail water highway and air travel halted or delayed. Lowville New York with 39 inches of snowfall was isolated by telephones and roads other northern Maine communities faced isolation while lines rested on mobile radio units to reconnect.
A bill in Boise proposes statewide changes to Idaho fishing and hunting licenses. It would raise resident fees to 2 for fishing 2 for hunting or 3 for both and adjust nonresident licenses including a 50 plus 25 per extra species, with a 5 day nonresident fish option.
