President Woodrow Wilson took the oath on the Capitol east front amid cold dawn glow and cheering crowds. Taft and Wilson greeted by massed processions, with Bryan, McCombs, and Taft in attendance as the inaugural ceremonies opened a new administration.
President Wilson’s cabinet is complete with unofficial acceptance of nominations. William J. Bryan becomes Secretary of State, William G. McAdoo Secretary of the Treasury, Lindley M. Garrison Secretary of War, James Mc Reynolds Attorney General, Albert Burleson Postmaster General. Josephus Daniels would lead the Navy, Franklin K. Lane Interior, David A. Houston Agriculture, William C. Redfield Commerce, and William B. Wilson Labor.
Vice President Marshall administers the oath at 12 34 with the crowd cheering. President Wilson repeats the oath at 1 34 as Chief Justice White presides. The procession returns to the White House by 1 56 p m amid continued applause.
Washington March 4 Woodrow Wilson was inaugurated as president with Thomas R Marshall as vice president in solemn ceremonies marked by dignity and simplicity. The day ran about five hours beginning with the White House to the capitol procession and congressional actions before the presidential oath.
Washington March 4 The inaugural procession 30000 strong moves from the Capitol to the White House in a grand tribute to President Wilson. Soldiers sailors and bands parade Pennsylvania Avenue while crowds line the route from curb to reviewing stands.
A second skirmish occurred today between the Ninth Cavalry and Mexican federals across the border a mile and a half southeast of Douglas. Fifty Mexicans fired on a border patrol at close range amid ongoing border tensions.
March 4. The senate killed the Ferguson bill providing for the devolution of the community property of husband and wife. The measure had drawn strong protests from club women across the state and prompted widespread opposition to its passage.
Washington reports on the final day of Congress as Taft signs a department of labor bill while vetoing the sundry civil appropriation bill costing 113 million dollars. The House overrode the veto 279 to 50 but the Senate abandoned a second override as sessions ended. Speaker Clark presided long into the night before adjournment.
