Gambling crackdown and Bannock tension noted in city

Watson filed a warrant. Wartime gambling foes may close most stud games until the case concludes. Separately social news covers Mrs. D. W. Church’s luncheon and high five favors, city police training hints from Chief Wills in Boise, and local civic notes including lodge elections, school board moves, and Joe Mombert opening a lunch counter at Derham’s on Front Street.

Guessing On Coming State Convention

Boise Idaho June 29 In some respects there will be marked elements of similarity in the developments of the Republican convention at Chicago and the Republican convention to be held at Pocatello on the 24th of August. When the clans were at hand in the Windy City none knew what might happen. There was nothing prearranged that could stand up with certainty. Everything was in the air except the speeches soon to aviate. The shrewdest political depositors admitted their inability to even come close to a guess as to what would happen. It all revealed there was no inner circle carrying out a cut and dried program. It was free and untramalled action. When the Republican clans gather at Pocatello there will be the same uncertainty as to the outcome. There will be nothing predetermined. In anything shall be decided beforehand it will surprise most analysts. There might be an exception to the senatorial nomination for Frank R. Gooding but even then it is doubtful there will be certainty in advance. All indications point to understanding in advance on anything being possible only after considerable convention maneuvering. Uninstructed delegations: If everything is left open for deliberate judgement of the convention there is a widesprad feeling that county conventions should send their best balanced men whose foresight is clear and who possess the ability to distinguish the spurious from the genuine the sincere from the hypocritical the worthy from the unworthy the capable from the inferior or incompetent.

Contested Governor Race Features Davis Eagleson Duel
