The army plans to grow to 12 divisions by end of 1949 and seeks 1,250 reserve officers monthly for active duty to fill expanded ranks. An airplane carrying two Ogden residents from Last Chance Inn near Sun Sunday crashed after takeoff. Witnesses said the craft quit after liftoff, clipping three trees before landing.

Police say Gin Hosaka aged 26, the mistress of a now-poor merchant, burglarized empty houses with her baby on her back. Proceeds were given to the merchant to support his legal wife and six children.

A gang armed with machine guns shot two policemen and fled into a wooded quarry near Western Springs after holding up an alleged handbook. Over 100 officers, tracking dogs, and 11 airplanes hunted through the all night man hunt with searchlights shading the two mile square quarry while hundreds of spectators hampered the search.
