A newborn infant was buried alive in a shallow grave near Fabens, El Paso County, for about an hour before a boy alerted Frank Gomez who rescued the child. The infant survived and was taken to the city county hospital. Authorities seek the two women involved.

Riverside California June 24 12 year old Scout Harold Johnson has been missing since Friday after separating from his troop on a hike toward Mount San Jacinto. The Idaho State Elks association wraps its ninth annual convention with the election and installation of officers for the coming year. Boise President P G Flack presided as reports and awards followed a morning session, including drill contests among Boise Caldwell Nampa and Logan lodges. Caldwell lodge won the first interstate ritualistic contest, while Boise received a $100 prize from the state association as part of the ceremonies.
William Julian, 27, of Sage, Wye, eluded capture after allegedly shooting his recently divorced wife during a car ride. The woman was struck in the neck and fractured her arm but was not in critical condition. She had filed for divorce a month earlier.
Reports from Vatican City say Pope Pius XI, aged 73, is seriously ill with acute bladder trouble and suspected poisoning. Doctors reportedly drained the bladder after a series of audiences, as word spreads of his deteriorating condition during the Holy See’s ceremonies.
