Denver June 19. The secretary of the public land convention complains tickets were issued indiscriminately making admission unclear. The convention will revoke all tickets and require credentials anew. Mark Woodruff of the forest reserve force is accused of packing the convention with administration supporters.
Details show a midnight engagement June 17 between 500 mutinous sappers and loyal troops. About 75 men were killed or wounded as Captain Akuloff was slain and his troops opened fire after the sappers refused to disperse, ending with the mutineers fleeing.
Bridgeton New Jersey June 19 An investigation is under way into the drowning of Miss Mary Venner whose body bears marks of violence. She was last seen rowing with George Evans who says the boat sank during a shift in position and that Venner clung to him as they went down twice before he swam to shore.
Moscow, June 19. William D. Wyer received eighteen months in the penitentiary and a $100 fine. C. W. Robnet got eight months and $100. William F. Kettenbach and George Kester, cashier of Lewiston National Bank, each eight months and $1000 fine. Federal Judge Dietrich handed down the punishments for north Idaho timber land fraud conspiracy.
A temporary misunderstanding between the Union Pacific coal department and the Short Line freight department over a 25 cent summer storage reduction is being clarified after a Chicago notification. Salt Lake coal dealers report demand outpacing supply, with Deseret News noting the Union Pacific stored 47,000 tons last year but none now, signaling an uneasy winter outlook.

Boise June 19 The Steunenberg murder trial spent the full session on admissibility of Miners Magazine editorials as evidence linking Frank Steunenberg and labor troubles. The defense challenged using the Chicago anarchist case as a guide while the prosecution pressed identical points. Judge Wood adjourned to 2 pm to rule on competency and examined exhibits, admitting some articles and ruling others out.
Paris reports M Ferroul Narbonne mayor and wine growers leader, second only to Marcelin Albert, arrested as troops surround his home. Women and men watchers kept vigil, but the government’s armed forces deter conflict. Albert and central committee members flee as police raid their HQ. troops scour the countryside for fugitives.
John Stapleton, a laborer in Pocatello, returned to a stripped house and a note saying his wife Bessie had left for St. Joseph Missouri. He sued for divorce in Judge Lynch's court in Butte last week, and the divorce was granted.

Two 14 to 15 year old boys from Pocatello were committed to 30 and 50 days in county jail for petty larceny by Justice O Garthwaite of McCammon. Deputy Sheriff McGarvey refused to lock them up, citing juvenile court jurisdiction. Judge Garthwaite suspended the sentence after a long distance consultation. The youths, from well established families, joined older companions and aided in stealing copper wire from H C Harkness, but fled when discovered.
Logan reports Dr. H J Frederick of the Agricultural College returned from Soda Springs Idaho after three weeks studying a puzzling sheep illness called bighead The disease causes heads to swell rapidly and is not easily cured or transmitted by serum He aims to culture germs and test preventives as about half of afflicted sheep die and spread is a concern Frederick plans further summer work on the case.
The amusement committee laid out a big Fourth of July program in Gate City style with a sunrise salute, parades, literary exercises, and multiple sports. Events include pony races, baseball between Pocatello and Idaho Falls, basketball purses, street races, a Greek Marathon style race, juggling by Japanese, Italian exhibitions, a tug of war, a greased pole climb for a ten dollar piece, and hose relay.
