Secretary Hoover sent a message to George H. Moses, chairman of the Republican national convention, praising the party's confidence and reflecting on his life, service, and views on the presidency and national duties amid a new era in economics and world affairs.
In New York the Giants exploded for five runs in the first inning to defeat the Pirates 9 to 1. Jackson hit a homer during a big rally, Vic Aldridge allowed three hits total, and the Pirates faded early.
At the Kansas City convention Herbert Hoover secured the Republican nomination on the first ballot with about four fifths of the votes. Frank Lowden withdrew after disagreeing with the party platform on farm relief. Delegates split among Curtis, Watson, Norris, and others with Hoover ending well ahead of the rest. President Coolidge offered no formal support but Hoover received the nomination from Ohio's Ralph Cole despite Coolidge's wish. The convention showed sharp changes since its start, with Hoover supporters energetic and opponents resigned to the outcome.
Police fought a long battle with Charles Lumpy Cleaver and Joseph Farina after a jailbreak at Dupage county jail Wheaton. About 400 shots were fired as officers closed in, with Cleaver and Farina wounded but alive and others still at large.
In Lexington on June 15 AP reports a day of fist fights and jeering as Kentucky Democrats voted to pledge 26 national delegates to Governor Smith of New York. Beckham factions split the party after Beckham’s defeat, with Blairs and Vincon figures in leadership struggles and several women fainting amid chaos.
At the Republican convention in Kansas City Curtis won the vice presidential nomination on a near unanimous roll call after a bloc of Pennsylvania and New York delegations shifted late. Curtis carried 1052 votes to Herman L. Erkens 19 and minor contenders, with Dawes and MacNider receiving small counts.
England's Mrs. M. Holcroft Watson fell 6-1 6-2 to Miss Helen Wills in the second singles match of the Wightman cup. Earlier, Mrs. Molla Mallory lost the opening match to Mies Eileen Bennett by 6-1 6-3 for the American team.

Atlanta Ga June 15 JP Herbert Hoover congratulated Herbert Hoover on receiving the Republican nomination for president last night. A brief message was dispatched to the secretary of home affairs pledging support and urging unity behind the nominee. The signing appears as an Atlanta Constitution employee's note and is not related to the candidate.
