British reporters observe German retreat as heavy artillery pressures push defenses back near Messines Ridge. Correspondents note the withdrawal spreading east and southeast of Messines while Haig signals potential turning points as the offensive develops toward Recam.

June 15 report says British forces attacked near Messines and achieved all objectives. They advanced south and east toward Ypres Comines canal and occupied former German front trenches from Lys to Warnave. The advance extended from five hundred to one thousand yards, with seven miles of new lines under heavy pressure.
An official statement reports retirement of all forces at two Belgian front points on June 15. German units were passed back by the British between Hellebeke and the Douve region and also southwest of Warneton.

Ivan Smajla, 27, enlisted at Pocatello on May 30 but was turned away at Fort Douglas. He underwent an operation in Salt Lake City at his own expense and returned to Fort Douglas yesterday with papers to reattempt entry. He was born in Russia and had been sent to Salt Lake by Pocatello officers on May 31.
In Little Rock on June 15 a patriotic parade led by 1900 soldiers from Fort Roots will feature the Arkansaw Travelers annual convention which opens today and runs through tomorrow.
Naval recruiting officers report 21 to 31 year old men to be sent to state governors after enlistment or naval reserve entry. Several applicants at the main station today with no immediate enlistments. five Rupert recruits will report to Pocatello. George W. Collins enlisted for immediate training. Demay Merrill and Logan S. Beckstead enlisted in the medical department and depart for training. Sergeant Shaffer praises Chief Deputy Assessor Ian Anderson for aiding recruitment with trips and ads. Anderson, a Spanish American veteran, awaits active service.
Washington report states the president signed the war budget into law on June 15, providing appropriations for the new army and related war proposals.

Boulder Colorado June 15 The need of assistance for America in the fight against tuberculosis in the French army was stated by D Livingston Farrand director of a mission to France by the Rockefeller foundation before leaving for Paris Conservative estimates indicate a half million cases in France It is said 150000 soldiers have been discharged because of the disease
In Lincoln Roosevelt condemns pacifists likening them to Copperheads and urges undivided loyalty to the flag and aid to the Red Cross. He criticizes U S policy toward Germany and calls for stronger support for American troops in Europe. In The Hague Captain Krol of the Ryndam is honored for bravery in saving the Vigilant crew.
The funeral for James Frank Hunt was held at Chant yesterday afternoon at 2 39. A large crowd from Pocatello attended. Hunt, born May 8 1858 in Parowan Utah, served long in the state legislature and helped develop Lava Hot Springs. He lived at Swan Lake and engaged in farming and stock raising. He was married to Artimacy Norton in 1879 and had nine children, five boys and four girls, two boys and one girl deceased. Rev Stoddard conducted the services.
Paris June 28 reception planned for General Pershing after the French academy resolves that its officers shall wait on him with greetings. Pershing proceeds to the front shortly. American officers begin a tour of railroad centers to inspect the transport organization.
Articles of Incorporation filed with the county clerk for two grain and farm produce firms. Union Grain and Elevator Co. organized at Provo Utah with 90000 capital stock and five directors led by J W Knight and W O Creer. Intermountain Farmers Equity Grain Co. based in Pocatello with 25000 capital stock and seven directors including George H Hall and F Alan E Roche.
The British armed merchant cruiser Avenger was torpedoed and sunk in the North Sea on Wednesday night. All but one were saved.
On June 15 in New York the Liberty loan bond drive saw buyers in the federal district at 10 o clock total 952 million dollars as initial stock exchange transactions traded above par. A block of 10 000 sold at par and one fiftieth.
