Railroads Seek Additional Wage Cut Across Four Brotheroods

New York reports that on June 14 the railroads decided to pursue a further 12 percent wage reduction. Notices will go to the four main railway brotherhoods engineers firemen train men and conductors, with word of cuts also expected for other groups later.

Eleven States Move Toward Repeal of Prohibition

The Associated Press reports eleven states have voted to ratify repeal of the 18th amendment, needing 25 more to repeal. States approving repeal include New York New Jersey Delaware Rhode Island Wyoming Nevada Michigan Wisconsin Illinois Indiana and Massachusetts. Several states will vote before June ends including New Hampshire Iowa Connecticut California and West Virginia with dates June 20 and June 27.

Massachusetts votes to repeal Prohibition in statewide referendum

Massachusetts backed repeal of the 18th Amendment by about four to one with 441 195 votes for pledged repeal delegates and 98 884 for retention. Three delegates per district were chosen as Boston and the state move toward a constitutional convention to act on repeal. Local option on 3.2 beer and wine also appeared, with wets gaining ground.

Roseburg Oregon June 14 State Policeman Hubert Hoxie shot and killed garage mechanic Jack Haley who abducted attorney Ray B Compton and tried to collect 125 dollar ransom.
